Hi there, I think that the skylight would definitely be the way to go, if your budget runs to it. It will really lift the whole stairwell and make it much lighter and brighter. Full height frosted doors may be OK on the laundry, but I wouldn't recommend it for the bathroom as when lights are on in the room, you may be able to see more than you bargained for, from the corridor. The occupants of the house may feel comfortable with it, but any guests or visitors may not. A frosted panel at the top of the door would be as far as I'd go. Bear in mind too, that glass lets more sound through than timber, and in a situation like yours, I'd recommend a solid core door, for that reason. I hope this helps!

Oklouise and Sirius, thanks for the ideas. Actually the first one could work us very well, removing part of the wall and having a partition instead of a door. A lot more work but we are pretty handy. Regarding the barn door, most of the people I talked to agreed it might date quickly, unless I use a different mechanism than the ubiquitous black one you see everywhere,maybe.

A standard door to replace what was here would cost around $30 unpainted from Bunnings & the shaker doors start around $200 each.... the old doors have gone they had so many layers of enamel it would have been arduous and expensive to get a good finish.some of them were beyond repair so for continuity we have chosen to replace them all. Im more concerned about it looking too much and having wasted money than actually being concerned about the cost.

You will need to look at how blinds will clear the door handle if recessed in the frame. There may not be enlightened space. Also wi5 the big door you will need to break it into two or maybe three blinds due to weight of a long span. It’s much easier to pull up a smaller blind which outweighs the negative, no pun intended. I’d look at white, But a pale green or blue may also work particularly if you can echo the colour in cushions, rug or artwork. Get the blind company to bring you samples.
