Help with plans -kitchen butlers laundry
Comments (7)oklouise. Thanks for your input. Never thought of moving stairs. There is nothing under the laundry etc. so garbage Shute would not work. the garage is sunken and the right side lounge etc of the house is I think 1.5 mtrs above floor. The architect is trying to work with the land which has a 5m fall towards the street. Hence the stairs upstairs are towards the back of the house. Just to give you a good idea I have attached a copy of the whole ground floor....See MoreWhat are your thoughts on our kitchen design?
Comments (54)I have just moved into a new house where we designed a kitchen/scullery very similar to yours - kitchen for preparation and cooking while being part of the household and the scullery for dirty dishes and storage of crockery and food items that are used occasionally or for sandwiches and snacks (little preparation). There is also a drinks area just outside the scullery (with a very small sink and a tap that has a choice of ready hot or chilled water - it is used constantly). The fridge is placed in the middle between the main preparation kitchen and the scullery where the toaster is also kept. People wanting coffee, toast, snacks can access everything without bothering the person/ people cooking. Our hot plates and wall oven are separated by an L-shaped bench with a single sink, which works very well. However, the sink is much closer to the oven than the hot plates which was bad planning. I underestimated the number of times I move between the sink and the stove top (including rinsing my hands between tasks). The sink needs to be close to the cooktop - and, because you are not stacking dirty or drying dishes there, the amount of bench space between the cooktop and sink does not need to be all that large. One other thing that I am really glad we upgraded to is a synthetic stone bench that is allows you to put pans on directly from the oven (most do not) - brilliant. It also allows you to cut directly in in. I usually don't do this, not because I ma concerned about the bench top but because I dont want to blunt my good knives :)...See MoreWhat are your thoughts on this ensuite and WIR plan?
Comments (14)Thanks @oklouise! Is that a queen bed in the room? Attached is the full floorplan. Absent measurements since we've only asked this architect to specifically help us with this bedroom and ensuite for now. Currently the door for the bedroom is on the wall from the entry way. It's unconventional, but we'd like to move the door from that the wall facing the hallway/adjacent the kitchen because we'd really like to use the extra entry wall space to put a drop zone/hall tree and improve the feel of our entry way. As you can see from all the random, jutting out bits of wall the previous owner moved/removed some walls to make the floorplan more open. There's so much we want to do/think we want to do down the line, but want to spend a couple of years editing our ideas before we work on the rest of house. Bedroom 1 won't be the main bedroom forever, the vision is to extend out the back and add an upstairs on the back half of the house as well at which point we'll build a larger main bedroom suite. Kitchen and laundry will move to the back of the house when we extend, so we'd need to think about what to do with that space. Maybe a chance then to extend bedroom 1 and have a luxe guest suite! We'll have to see what our needs are after we have a kid or two....See MoreConfusion with colors for kitchen joinery, benchtops etc - thoughts?
Comments (4)Basically , black and white is lazy , and has been done to death . Of your two inspirational pics , I'd go for the brown one any day , even though IMO the doors look too cheap and plasticy , but it has more colour and character , the stone is way more interesting -- in a good way -- and I think not only will it make a better impression now , but also in 20 years time . If you can get the doors to look like they have a few percent of wood in them haha , not just a plastic and adhesive and sawdust mix , it would be even better ! Similarly , that folded perspex on that hood looks tacky too , and personally if considering it , I'd go glass or ( preferably in that colour combo ) copper , with lights to tie in -- maybe just me , but why spend $20k or $30k , and then save $2k and look tacky ?...See MoreKate
