Our roof is Jasper and our facade is Hog Bristle triple strength (previous owner's choice). In the shade the combination looks good but in the sun I think the walls look too yellow. We recently painted our front rendered fence in Hog Bristle (single strength) and we like it much better than the triple. In the sun it looks a lot like Surfmist but with slightly more warmth (I had a couple of passerbys asking if it was Surfmist). I also think Dune looks great with Jasper. We live in SE Qld and do not find the dark-coloured Jasper roof heats up the house at all (we have roof tiles, not colorbond, and we have roofing insulation). I tried to take some photos to upload but as its a drizzly day, the colours are looking all wrong.

Hi Susan, My husband and I have just completed a tiny house build, and I can definitely recommend it. The price works out much cheaper than a shipping container house according to my research ($60,000 as compared to close to $100,000 fully finished) and you can easily enough rent a parcel of land to live on rather than buying to build on, at least initially. Obviously you need to carefully research council restrictions for wherever you decide to live, but this could be a much easier and cheaper option for you. Depending on the size, setup and local zoning, tiny houses generally don't need DA approval. Instead you register it as a caravan and if you rent a parcel on someone else's land where there already is a permanent dwelling, you're generally fine to live there (though I'm certainly not an expert on the legalities). Then if, in the future, you're able to buy your own block, you can hitch it up to a ute or 4WD and move it with you. Something to consider anyway, and starting from scratch with a tiny house on wheels can actually work out a lot easier than retrofitting a shipping container with internal framing and walls, insulation, windows, doors, etc. But as everyone else has suggested, make sure you do your research properly and do what will work best for you in the long run.

your new plan is so much better but I could'nt find the lift?? and have a few suggestions to consider ....if you rake the roof and ceiling in the stairwell to parallel the main roof the stairs could be less intrusive in the garage and living area, the downstairs toilet could be in the storage area and should include a shower (for washing off after dirty garage, shed and yard work or a future pool?), the upstairs south wall of the stairwell would enclose the western deck and the roof could extend down to create a front porch and by rearranging the western stairs there's easier access to the office and space on the western deck for a sitting area ..the separate toilet in the ens and small shower is difficult for elderly/disabled use or assistance from carers so i've rearranged the ensuite and wiw and created a loo with a view, added a door to the laundry so your wife's clients won't need to walk through the laundry if they need to use the bathroom (what furniture or equipment does she need in her office?) and by rearranging the biw bed 2 is bigger but i've omitted the tiny cabinet in the bathroom in favour of more space in the kitchen but arrangements of the kitchen needs more personal attention to suit the users...you may need fire shutters and want window coverings so making the living room doors narrower would also allow space for a fireplace and TV located so the furniture can face towards the views with stack back space for curtains and an alcove for the study nook and twin garage doors would allow for a central support column and make sure the garage doors are taller to allow you to drive in with loaded roof racks and roller doors or fire shutters for the alfresco would add extra security

Most council areas require a building permit for a large 70sq,m shed. Something so large will take up a lot of your outdoor space. Consider the height of the shed, and the setbacks required from your boundaries. Consider how much shade the shed will cast, and how you plan to use the ground on the southern side of the shed. Finally consider your own outlook. Which windows will look at the side of the shed? Do you want the view from your living areas to be of the shed? What about the neighbours views? Are there any restrictions placed by the developer of the subdivsion on the size, materials, colours and location of sheds? You haven't provided enough information about the orientation, but you do need to chat with council about their requirements for setbacks. Once you have this information you should peg out the corners of your proposed shed on the ground to see how it relates to your house and outlook to help you reach agreement.
