Hi Karley ( and Kelly ), not specific advice but, a start is to put some parameters around your query. Are you looking to begin a degree, a diploma, or would you prefer a short term starter course? What area of design are you interested in: visual merchandising for a retail outlet; setting up or working for an interior design business; do you envision working in the building industry as a designer or a property stylist? Have you any skills you can use as recognition of prior learning? Is this your first foray into the workforce?
There are people who specialise in career counselling, some of whom are damn expensive, but most educational institutions have a free trained advisor who can help you decide on which course best fits your needs. The Seek website also has a pretty good career advice section. Checking out what jobs are being advertised, and what skill set they require, could also be a good starting point. Also look for courses run by a Recognised Training Organisation (RTO) and check their bona fides at myskills.gov.au. Once you’ve found a course that interests you, contact other providers to see if they have anything similar. Costs vary, you might prefer an institution in a particular area, particular courses may include internships…so much to consider, and that’s where reviews can be helpful.
@Dalecki Design thank you for suggesting Seek for career advice and how to double-check they are Recognised Trainers. I have sadly been stung more times than I should have in this area.
I am looking at some design training so I am better able to assist clients witht their styling choices.
