Exterior renovation advice. To render or not to render?
Comments (14)The Bricks are OK, if you like them, keep that round feature deck in the brick and render the rest, or stone clad the feature and render the rest, or cheapest of all just paint the rest in a dark warm neutral and render the round feature in a lighter but similar tone. You have the windows to consider. If you changed the colour of them you could also change the overall colour scheme from warm to cool. Although a black and white scheme is current, it looks better on timber houses and in suburban and inner city areas in my opinion. There are lots of different elements to your house which would look more integrated if you chose a warm colour scheme with a maximum of 3 colours. You can even make the bricks work if you paint upstairs a warmer colour to match them and changed the tiles and front steps to wood. Wood integrates everything in a warm colour scheme....See MoreExternal Colour Decision - Ironstone next to Woodland Grey?
Comments (11)Hi Sara, I definitely agree with the other responses here; you cannot put Woodland Grey with Ironstone. If you like Woodland Grey choose warm green/brown colours to compliment such as, Surfmist, Dune, Pipe Clay. And for the fence consider going darker still such as Monument. Blackest Brown is also lovely but not as popular because, well, it's brown....See MoreExterior render colours
Comments (40)After great thought with the advice given & other researched sites, we have decided to not render our bricks. :) We have begun re painting our pergola from dulux lexicon to taubmans coffee cake - very similar to our window trims. It's a neutral stone/beige colour. We hope to paint our garage doors & gutters monument & probably the facia trims in coffee cake. Fingers crossed for it to look ok. Thanks again....See MoreNeed Help Choosing Grey & White Render Colours!
Comments (11)Great advice above from MB. Vivid white is extremely bright outside, I can't suggest enough to use a tinted white. You will need sunglasses otherwise! Surfmist works pretty well with most colours but can throw a slight green. Dulux Natural White will be good, but very bright. If you can choose something other than Colorbond colours here's a few. Just make sure the paint dept confirms the tint is for exterior use (can be a problem for exterior paint tint, even if it's an exterior paint). Dulux colours: Todd River - newer one, I haven't seen it large scale. Doesn't throw green. Simone Weil - throws a slight blue, but quite a neutral grey. Tristan - brown based grey It would look amazing if you could clad the LHS grey section (with the two windows in it) in a horizontal timber cladding to match your door. Probably not an option though!...See Moredreamer
