Furniture Living Room Dining Room

What colour furniture and decor would suit?

I need help deciding what colour furniture would suit my home. We have grey tiles throughout with black kitchen featuring some oak brown with grey//brown/white countertop and white splashback tiles. Any advice? TIA

Will be almost all new furniture, mate. I’m moving from a one bedroom apartment with old mismatched hand me downs from my teenage years!

You can certainly find a rug or have one made to go with the art you choose without a problem. Most carpet stores will offer the service of surging the edges of which ever carpet you choose and there are thousands to choose from. Many rugs do not even need the edges to be surged like heavy shags. I do like the red or perhaps a white shag?

Hi Blufitch, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The four coffee tables are lovely, but I would probably opt for one of the two top ones. That being said, check the measurements first as these round tables might be significantly larger than your existing Ikea table. Re the potted plant, a taller one would be better, or you can put this one on a plant stand or even on a ceramic stool. But if you feel a mirror would be too much due to your mirrored splashback, leave the plant as it is and hang a framed print above the plant. It doesn't need to be big, but it's important that it s not too small so it doesn't look too "lost" on the wall. It's hard for me to judge the size from here, but a 70x40 frame might be ok. You could have only the yellow canvas above the couch, but you would have to bring in a few more brightly-coloured cushions or throw onto the couch, to compensate for the empty wall. Alternatively, you could also hang a large mirror above the couch. If you decide to do this, I think it would be best to move the canvas back to where it was, and hang the mirror in front of the window, so it reflects the natural light around and gives more depth to the room. The large Ikea Stave mirror (in white stained oak) is very reasonably priced and would work great. Just double check it fits first (it's 70x160)! Tell us how yo go! I would declutter to much is going on in this room. I love the blue chair maybe you can add some nice candles on the coffee table and books and the throw should not be in the middle of the couch probably different colour through maybe the same colour as the blue chairs. Also get rid of the side table and add maybe a plant and also get rid of the mirror in the corner.

I tend to lean towards a relaxed coastal look. With your colours I’d add some warmth with wood and texture. These stools are very comfy and would look good with your kitchen colours. A taupe or grey sofa over a neutral large rug, sisal or wool blend, with a wooden coffee table. Do you have colours you like? Do you have any art to work with? I would recommend assistance if you’re outfitting a whole house. Have a look at Katrina Chambers on the web and Instagram. She’ll put together mood boards for your rooms and do a shopping guide. Her prices are good and she doesn’t recommend furniture that you sell an organ to buy.

Thanks for the tips Julie and Bigreader. I do like the relaxed and casual look, nothing too polished. I think the neutral rug will break up the grey on the floor well. I have some wall pieces which I have collected from my travels overseas but not 100% sure how they’ll look on the new walls as they are small which fits my current home well.

To modernise your art work if quite small get re-framed with very large white mat and either tumber or black thinning frame.

Yes you can enlarge them quite easily using the method above, rearrange by mixing your travel pieces even adding a mirror into the mix looks fabulous to create a beautiful wall space
