If they were mine, I would have chosen to use the same striped fabric on the footstools rather than add in another shade of blue.

Thanks Liz. In this case using the stripe on the footstools would have been overkill. I needed to take into account the surrounding areas (of which there’s a view of the conservatory, living room and kitchen. The living room has a lot of different fabrics used on furniture and window furnishings.

Would love to see photos of the surrounding areas, Lurleen, to see how it all goes together. I re-covered some vintage arm chairs in a soft grey-blue and am looking for ideas for the rest of the soft furnishings in my room, so interested in how pros pull things together.

I agree with Liz -- the footstools don't gel with me -- Liz would have gone striped , I would be more likely to go with the cushion 'dot' fabric , so it has that double reference , and wouldn all tie in together better !

The other thing ( and it seems all 'stylists' do this ) is the first picture has all the furniture pushed together , and it is darker -- then , surprise surprise , the after pic is a wider shot , with the furniture spread out more , on a brighter day -- see how the second pic not only shows the glass door , top of the stairs etc not visible in the first pic ( so taken probably 1.5-2 metres further back ) , but one of the stools is spread across in front of the glass door !

Looks way better, not my cup of tea but beautiful and a job well done.

I think you've done a great job but why not get rid of footstools altogether? It's a transitional area and not a reclining area and they're only going to get in the way.

Thanks CP. They are actually used a lot for relaxing with a wine or cuppa at the end of a busy day so the footstools work really well.

Luv the chairs but, I agree ottomans weird, and 2 is overkill.

I think the lighter blue ottomans lighten the space up. I think there were 2 in the before photo
