My house and bathroom are small so space saving is critical. The original old bathroom layout has a small square shower and a separate half bath, with an even smaller basin right next to the toilet. It was claustrophobic and the half bath was only used for storing cleaning stuff. When we renovated, the bathroom was gutted, keeping most of the original plumbing points. Though we are not "bath persons" we decided to have a shower over (normal length) bath with frameless swing glass screen. From past experiences, I find it easier to clean a shower-over-bath than a fully tiled shower area, or one with a shower base. When visitors with young children came to stay, having a bath was handy. Combining shower/bath gave us room for a long vanity with plenty of bench space and away from the toilet. It now has ample of space in the middle for changing and moving around each other. Shower-over-bath definitely is an efficient use of small bathroom space.

Hi, probably too late to comment now as you've already gone with someone on this project. Along the wall is the most common solution as it is easier to create falls, particularly if you have large format tiles. You will get water out of the shower given this is a just a freestanding panel, and it will also be cold in winter (speaking from experience) without a door on it. In the Australian Standards you are required to have a 'water stop' or step down to at least 5mm - most people don't do this and this is where problems can start from a waterproofing point of view. I love all this feed back - thank you ladies & gents :) I do think the light and flow would probably work better like oklouise's first post - I concede you are both right. My concern was the depth of the shower - we have a very pokey one at the moment but think I see how to rectify that - tell me what you think? Also I want LOTS of storage and think keeping the storage in the activity with the entrance now up the other end would limit the furniture layouts so I would probably keep that in the entrance hall and still use the nook as is - no doubt they will sit there to do their makeup as the light will be amazing BUT i can imagine the mess will not - haha! I LOVE those doors siriuskey- so grand and impressive but my husband is a lay in bed TV watcher so that would possibly take up too much wall space for his liking - again I giggle ( you have to right?)

I think it depends on whether there is a young family in the home or not. And for resale purposes, it’s not a big deal as the buyer will determine their own personal need/priority accordingly at time of purchase. Stand-alone shower is much better though. The room looks much bigger. The use of tiles is great. And a huge standout for me is that the mirror frame sets off the tiles. It needed that something extra to bring it all together - you’ve hit the mark fabulously. Just needs a plant (real or faux) in there now :)
