What colour roof/gutter/trim/upper render to go with orange bricks?

We are at the beginning of a renovation which will include new roof, render to the upper level and the building of a carport. The plans are made, the builder is sorted, but the colour choice is not. I love the bricks and style of the house, but what colour do we go with for the gutters and roof? We are changing to a Colorbond roof, probably in Ironstone or even Deep Ocean (ideas?). We are open to suggestions, the concrete balustrade is going and being replaced with timber wire/glass? The new carport is very plain and will align with the roofline. All our windows are being replaced as well...what colour do we go there? This is the biggest dilemma I am tempted just to leave them in natural aluminium as I think dark colours make the windows too stark and do not suit the style of house. I don't want minty green trim as that is what I got rid of years ago. It just looked wrong. Whatever colour it has to go with the natural blue/brown brick trim on the lower windows. Also we think we will just render the upper level in a slightly darker shade than the natural orange bricks below, unless anyone has some brilliant inspiration?

Look at “wind spray” colorbond colour for your new windows and the trim. It relates to the colour in the lower bricks.

And I do not think a glass balustrade will look any good. The house needs a railing of some kind, to at least keep in the era of the shape of the home. Glass IMO will look out of place.

Scallopini is similar to Dune? The dutch gable's (triangle's) would be better in Shale Grey as would Facia and gutters. Monument gutter ok but could be a bit much. Monument to roof and garage door. Monument to window frames as well rather than black? Depends on builder window company. Scallopini to walls. That way really just 3 colours.

To Modernise this without rendering or retiling the roof I would probably recommend to go darker with the trims. My top pick as a colour consultant would be Dulux's Domino for the trim. It will be a little bolder and create a more modern contemporary feel. You can see it pictured below as the trim. Obviously this house has painted their bricks in the shade "teahouse" however it will still look much better on your 1980s "peru" colour bricks! I would be looking to counterbalance the intensity of the orange brick by introducing some olive greens into the trim and gutters. I don't know if your budget would extend to refinishing the roof tiles in a similar green. Get samples of Colorbond Pale Eucalyptus and Wilderness to see how they look against the brick. If neither work then consider Colorbond Woodland Grey. Of course some decent landscaping will help break up the mass of orange and soften the look. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls

I think everyones on a similar thought process about the house colours , and I'd go dark too . The garden is alright , and is actually more modern than the house IMO -- it all suits . You could go maybe some lancewood and flax and more modern , but I'd keep the older base . Some things I would look at though -- the driveway looks a bit wonky , and the left side a lot older than the rest . I'd be tempted to dig the left side up ( it looks to be panels so a bit easier ) and redo that side in one pour , and maybe see if you could 'fill' any wiggles up the other side . I'd probably paint the garage door , monument would be the logical choice but it may be too much / too dark then ? Light tones won't suit , who wants greys , browns are yuck , and even my go-to of an orange or yellow or even red might look too try-hard with your brick . And one last touch -- I'd add a dark ( charcoal probably ) cap or even 100 x 100 square brick laid horizontally along the top of your front fence , to tie in with the cap on the left side post , but also your house . Just a little feature that will add a finishing touch IMO .

Why are you going to render the top storey?. I would replace the unmaintained weather boards with a Scyon cladding product.

It is 'of a certain era' , and without spending big $$$ , that's always going to be the base , and why not ? I'd take the cue from the lower brickwork , and do the windowsills and gutters in a tone thats more charcoal than brown , but with a slight brown aftertaste .

Likewise , I'd redo the upper level in weatherboard , whether its painted , coated , synthetic , but personally I wouldn't mix styles -- scyon or render done in that orange tone will look like an obvious add-on ( yes , I know , the well-worn boards do that too , but look at how the concrete railing has come up with a paint ) . Basically , keep it looking like up-dated period IMO .

Basically , get rid of all the green , and the awnings , and work with the orange , the 'interesting' aspect of the brown , the roof , and the small bit of white .

For this scope of work I’d recommend a professional colour consultation. You have a lot going on and if you get the upper colours wrong your house will look unbalanced forever.
