suggestions for removal in wall air conditioner

Have an old in wall air conditioner - see photos
Not sure whether to put a window in or brick up
On outside it goes right up to eaves so not sure if a window is even possible -

Hard to advise without seeing more of room. The pic looks bright in room so I am assuming you don’t need light. But there may well be a view worth considering a bigger window? Windows ca change how you layout spaces so think what you would like with this opportunity and your budget.

Thanks Kate - no it’s a very bright room- just looking for easiest way to fix that looks reasonable

@newgardener, It's quite a shame that the AC was placed so low on the wall, it would be so hard to sit under it when on, you would get a stiff neck from the cold in no time. It should have been right up below the cornice, then artwork would be simple. If it were me, I'd have it moved up, repair the move and you have your wall back, not particularly an expensive job just a bit messy.

the inside wall can be patched quite easily with a timber frame, plasterboard and paint ...the external brickwork could be patched with a close matched brick (and try to ignore the difference as even an original brick looks slightly different when patched in later) but, if the difference is too obvious try painting the odd bricks (not the mortar) in a paint to closely match the original colour and dabbing the paint to mimic the variation is the original bricks...but. i wonder if any of the other townhouses has faced a similar dilemma and discovered a secret solution?)..any experienced handyman should be able to manage all the skills required but you'll need a qualified electrician to move the power point into a more convenient position

If you move the sofa along the wall, not only would it give a more balanced look, more importantly it will be safer further away from the window. You don’t want the sofa to be a climbing aid to an open window (can’t see if your window has restricted opening or not), or the blind cord (although that does look like the cord is secured part way down the frame so there is not a large loop, which would be a strangulation hazard). Hi @Gretta Eliza, if you haven't already, wanted to suggest you take a step back and consider broader questions, like: what works well with your current home; what do you find difficult; what would be a successful outcome; how would you like the house to feel. It's easy to go round and round with different layouts without much progress. If you can frame the design challenge clearly for yourself, then you will have guidelines that will help your decision making. You have to ask the right questions to get the intended outcome, right? Even just a few hours spent with an Architect will help you on your way in this regard, and set a valuable foundation for whatever comes next. Hope this helps and goodluck with it!

too small and in an awkward place for a window.....the inside wall will need a patch of plasterboard (or hang a lovely big artwork or wall hung TV with the existing power point?) ) and you may find that the external opening is not as big as the whole AC ..it should be easy enough to remove the unit and cover the hole in the brick wall with a neat panel of flashing over some insulation and should be a quick easy job for a handy person or confident DIYer with some basic tools although you will need an electrician if you no longer need the power point so first decide on the power point so you can repair all the holes at the same time
