Ovens!!!
Comments (4)After selling ovens for 10 years, I received a lot of hands on training and feedback from customers. Which is why I would strongly advise against Westinghouse ovens. F&P is a step up, but Bosch is a jump up! I personally would buy Miele, for ease of use, ease of cleaning, cooking performance, aesthetics and the best quality. However, if the budget won't allow for Miele, Bosch is the go. You can't argue with German quality. For extra cooking capacity, consider a 70cm wide oven or a double wall oven or 2 x 60cm ovens. Just make sure you are sure you really do need it before spending the extra money. By using the functions properly and cooking on multiple shelves at the same time, you can easily cook for a crowd in a 60cm oven. With a decent oven you can even cook various dishes with various flavours, at the same time. I have done it on many many occasions....See Moredouble oven vs single oven?
Comments (28)Thank you all for your timely responses. I too have always enjoyed the convenience of my two ovens which can be used independently of each other, which is why I am seriously considering the 1.5 double oven option. I have also researched the idea of two compact ovens which include microwave and steam options, (Bosch, Miele, Smeg AEG etc) and was all excited about that idea, but to install two of these is far too expensive. ($5000+ minimum) The freestanding convection microwave options all stipulate minimum 10-20cm airflow at the top of the unit, and the ones that do come with trim kits still all end up being too large for the space...frustratingly, often by only 2 or 3 cm! And yes, I've also lusted after an induction cooktop, but the expense of chasing wiring down a solid brick wall and disrupting backsplash tiling has put the kybosh on that idea. Anyhow, I have slept on this (again!) and have come to the conclusion that a 1.5 oven without an integrated microwave is the only way available at a reasonable cost.... A small microwave inside a cupboard might just work.... It's both interesting and noteworthy that convection/microwave +/- steam, with regular multifunction oven combinations although expensive, are readily available in several brands in the US......I'm jealous!...See MorePOLL: What's the best kitchen layout?
Comments (35)Jacqueline Macho, I agree the sink between the two pantries would be too dangerous. I would check the measurement for your work area between the sink and cooktop. As you have a large cooktop and sink between the fridge and oven...is there enough room to do all the food prep? I love a clean island and have never liked the idea of having any cooktop on an island as it seems too dangerous. A large sink takes up too much room on an island, especially if you’ve forked out for lovely stone or granite. I have for my new build, which we have been in for a month now, put in a small round bowl. I’m glad I did as I use it for food prep, and it has filter water for drinking. It doesn’t compromise the look or use of our island. I have a large and deep sink in the butlers for doing the washing up. I only have one dishwasher...yes folks just one. As my benches are 950mm high I opted for an Asko xxl....they are taller than others. After renting a house with a fisher and paykel dish drawers, I swore never to have them in our new build. So I personally can’t recommend them. Others might like them. Kitchens cost so much that’s why we obsess over them....See MoreNeff or Bosch Induction cooktop
Comments (11)To be honest i haven't used it much without the dial, only when i switch it to fry pan setting (love that feature) and on/off but i feel its much better quality than the previous Bosch and Fisher and paykel cooktops ive used. It just responds straight away. Yes i find it doesnt cut out unless there is quite a lot of overflow from pots whereas when i had a bosch it drove me nuts as it seemed to stop just with a small amount of water and even after i had mopped it up it took ages before being able to use it again. This is one of the downsides of induction, but there are lots of advantages and certainly doesnt bother me nearly as much now. In terms of size, mine only has 3 hotplates, which i deliberated over for some time as most have at least 4, i worked out that i only probably.want to use 4 at once one time a year and i havent regretted it. But only you know if you need all going at once and how big your pots are. I dont use the extra features much, like the flex zone but when i do they are fantastic. I couldn't cook gravy in a baking pan on the stove top without it. Mine has a little silver strip around the outside which is slightly lower than the cooktop which needs to be wiped down properly after each use to avoid food getting stuck but not a deal breaker. PS i absolutely love my Neff oven, the food comes out perfect every time at the exact time. Would absolutely recommend the oven. I dont have the steam one, but i do have the door that tucks inside the oven when open and its a genius idea, so easy to access inside. Would definitely buy another Neff as far superior to any other ive used....See Moredreamer
