corner wall & corner cabinet help

Hi, I’ve got an angled wall that houses plumbing to our upstairs bathrooms behind it. The carcass that is part of our existing kitchen is made to measure and looks like the below (700mm wide at the back & 400mm wide at the front). I was planning on keeping this cabinet shell because it’s custom, but the shaker door won’t fit. We’re looking at different companies to install. One is ikea. One is freedom. But would appreciate any thoughts on how I could maybe incorporate two smaller pullouts in this space?

There are plenty of custom cabinetry makers that would make a door to fit including IKEA or flat pack kitchens. Easier to tailor the door than to cut the existing cabinet down to suit two pull out doors.

the angled door across the front is made to allow for wider access... the two single doors unless hinged to open together would only allow very narrow access..as bigreader says it will be cheaper and easier to cut down a standard door than attempt to resize cabinets..with all the covid travel restrictions it might also be easier to consider Bunnings Kaboodle cabinets that offer a custom sizing service more easily accessible in most towns that Ikea and Freedom

I personally think that if you go with a corner lounge in this area it will take up a lot of space the rooms that Luke has shown...sorry Luke cut they are way bigger that 2.9 x 3 meters. but if you could get a small modular as Luke says you can separate the pieces that could work. You don't say how old the kids are.... If you have young kids you could get away with things like bean bag chairs and individual seating. I would put shelving and around the TV which I would install in the middle of the blue wall which can be open backed so you can still see the blue wall...and for small kids...use the cane basket and for the big kids...leave it open for their cds and consoles and things. Just think about installing a couple of power points into this unit...Kids always need them. Hope this helps...Robyn

U-shaped kitchen in the house we bought had corner drawers in one corner and a blind (useless) corner on the other side. We got rid of both corners. The kitchen is now a straight line and an island, open at both ends, with a third bench with drawers under along the window wall. No corners, and no obstacles to block traffic between the kitchen, butler's pantry and the veranda where we eat most of our meals. Much more practical. I hated being trapped in the U-shaped kitchen and having to walk in big circles around the bench to get out to the dining areas.

Hi Jasmine almost impossible to give you accurate guidance without room measurements. However a layout similar to below could work with the right size furniture & the TV mounted either over the fireplace or close by. If you got 2 backless bar stools at the kitchen bench this would give you added seating as people can turn around & face the lounge area & be a part of the conversation. This layout also keeps the walk way free to the deck area. A rug would anchor the area. However again I can only say that without room measurements it is difficult to give you the best advice.

Do you have to use the smaller front boundary for the garage? Is the noisy living space going to work with all bedrooms coming off this space? If the garage went to the south and can it be on the boundary in Sydney, that would leave the middle for bedrooms and the northern aspect for living, as most Australian houses benefit from northern light. The front setbacks would make an ideal outdoor space which high fences or high shrubs if not allowed high fences, if on a busy road most councils allow you to have sound barriers, leaving the entry to the house to come in off the long boundary, which you can make more of a feature. You have a corner block which is always a bonus. The beds will then have a quite zone, the living can have that northern end and cars can be pushed to boundary. Always look at the site before you look at plans. Always make sure the living aspect overrides the plans. Always make sure that living in a space overrides the plans, always.

All a kitchen cabinet maker would be able to make exactly what you are after. Google search your local kitchen cabinet makers.

Thank you everyone, I’ve spoken to 12 different cabinetry firms since Oct, non have availability or are costing over 40k. I def think I could cut down a cover panel to size so it looks like a corner but could just be a hidden door.
I’m also totally ok with smaller storage space as I would want to use one slim cabinet for soaps and sponges, and the other for kids water bottles. The wider access just means we have more stuff that makes its way to the back 😄

Are you getting new cabinets or just doors? New benchtop?

Hi @bigreader, new cabinets, counters and relocating electrical for oven & stove. Pretty much doubling the size of the kitchen.

So you don’t need to reuse the existing corner cabinet? Then I can’t see why a kitchen provider is having trouble providing a solution you’re happy with. Many many kitchens have a corner cabinet.

If you want to save money, just ignore the blind corner and have standard cabinets meeting at right angles.

Agree completely with @Kate. Ignore the angle. I think would be more useable space.
