Kitchen - to keep vintage cabinet or not

I live in a 1930s bungalow (unrenovated). There are lots of original features left although some were "updated" in the 60s. I've lived here for a year and the first major job is to redo the kitchen. The kitchen is all 80s but it still has an original 1930s built in cabinet (see pic). Although I adore this feature, after living with it for 12 months I've realised how impractical it is. It is enormous, in poor condition and takes up one long wall of my kitchen and getting rid of it would mean more options for kitchen layout. But, am I mad to destroy such a vintage feature? The current basic layout of the kitchen is not bad but without removing this cabinet I really can't change it. Furniture in photos is not mine! (real estate pics).
