Do i need a laundry trough

I had the National construction code (NCC) open today so I thought I would answer a question people often ask.
Do you need a separate laundry trough (washtub) if putting your washing machine in the kitchen or bathroom?
the NCC says each house must have a kitchen sink, a washbasin and a washtub, in addition to a bath or shower and a toilet. The washtub must be in same room as the space for a washing machine.
Note: The NCC does not say you have to have the hand basin in the bathroom, just needs to be in the house. There is also no defintion of a washtub in terms of size, the NCC only specifies location and purpose. I hope this helps people.
