Since you are handy you could make something like this ,if you want to safe time then get a screen and place it behind the bed,this one you can change at anytime and use it if you ever need some sort of privacy or other decor ,here is one idea and I will find the other ones . The roller blind with sheer curtains will give a soft look and block out the light while you sleep. The floor to ceiling curtains probably won't look as nice due to your small space and the cornice so just above the window and a little wider than the window to make it look larger. The bed head either upholstered or timber needs to be light in colour so it doesn't dominate the room (the timber will be easier to clean) The design of the bedside tables depend on what you use them for but don't have too many items stored on them. The light also depends what you use it for (needs to be more direct if you use it to read). The addition of a large mirror will add the illusion of space and luxury. As you have a large bed in a smaller room just make sure the linen is not dominating the whole room. Good luck :)

Great advice chook, thanks so much. I'm thinking warm creamy shades to go with the dark wood furniture, but add texture like faux fur, satin, velvet, crisp cotton etc etc. Deep plush carpet. Generally luxe it up to the max. And definitely those bedside lamps of a lady holding a ball. The window is yet to go in, so I will make sure it's high enough to not overlap with the headboard. Good point how2girl, thanks. And yes, I toyed with the idea of a non-opening window for about a nanosecond, then summer hit here in Brisbane! Luckily there's a French door out to the deck in another wall, so we should get a good breeze going.
