Door retaining arch features

Has anyone put a door in passage ways with these arch mould features on?
We'd like to put doors here but the arch features are making it difficult. Does anyone have a solution?
Our other alternative is a custom door retaining the arch (without the mould features) but it also seems to be cost prohibitive.
Third and what looks like the most affordable solution is to square the wall and put a standard french door.
We really want doors to separate these areas so torn as to what to do.
I don't particularly love the mould features but everyone tells us were crazy to want them removed. The doors though are really needed too.

Copy the front door transom window. Install a transom window in the arch component of the doorways, which would form a frame to install French or solid doors.

The only problem is the height of the fancy mouldings. It looks as though your home is a reproduction of a federation home, not an original old home. If this is the case, I would remove the mouldings, install transom windows and a door that matches the height of the other doors. Noise and heating and cooling is more a priority than faux trimmings.

It is the ceiling and garden that are letting this picture down. The ceiling needs to be a colour that works with the colour of the bricks - currently it doesn't. The suggestion of the house numbers on the column is good - keep them big or you are wasting your time. But the garden is all wrong. The retaining wall is past its use-by-date and looks as tho it could be removed without the need to replace it. A garden of green would work without the need for any other colour as green against the colours in your home would work beautifully.

From your drawings I leaned towards squaring off the arches but seeing the house IRL I say keep them. Being raised from the road and the way the house is perceived to sit into the land, they look great. There is a graciousness to the arches which you don't often see in houses of this era, I think it because they are not uniform. I would look at the Spanish Mission style homes in Palm Springs for inspiration and keep the roof tiles rather than go colourbond too. You can still do a version of beach just more Spanish mission hacienda style!

Daniel Lindahl - I didn't say to get rid of it - I just said to change it for something else - I have a 70's home owner built - cavity brick - Daniel sometimes it is working with what you have in order to keep costs down - paintings - if you have several - can be changed around your home for a interesting look - as our homes are our homes - the paintings - can always be shared in various rooms/walls to suit ones mood.

Hi helke, how different we all are, I think your door is fabulous, by adding clear glass to the side, you will look at your door in a new light , to have such a unique door, you are very lucky. Also by adding decking and landscaping you will love the contrast the render will give to the overall look,you will love how the different textures will blend together to give a beautiful look, but we are all different and you should do what makes you happy every time you walk up your garden path to your home.

The corbels will have to go to fit in frame to mount door to, The arches, based on door next to it, don’t look High enough to stay unless you have a custom door made to fit the arch.
The widths and height of the openings will limit what you can fit in relation to transom above door height.
People like what’s there but take out the arch and put lovely glass doors in that are taller than standard door and you will get used to a new look.
You do need to be practical sometimes.

Yes, you are correct Kate, after looking closer, if the timber door shown is a standard door height, then there is no room for transom windows. So as suggested,Square of the arch and put proper doors in.
