Handles for eyelet curtains

Does anybody know if it is possible to attach handles (for opening and closing) to eyelet curtains. The eyelets keep getting stuck on the join of the rail, hopefully a handle might help lift them across. Alternatively, does anybody have any clever ideas to stop the curtain getting stuck on the join of the rail?

OK check out the photo with the two hooks. The one on the left is for ready-made pencil pleats whereas the right one is for making the pencil pleats using the special stiffening lining with little pockets which are picked up by the four prongs. If your curtains already have the pencil pleats sewn in, you can use either type of hook but obviously if you don’t have pleats sewn in you *must* use the four pronged one. I have about 30 -40 of the right hand one left from a previous job, and got some from Spotlight not that long ago. I know for a fact the four prong ones come with the hook at top, middle and bottom, so why not go back to Spotlight and change them. I am not a pro curtain maker, but this much I know.

Hi Karly, This is a lovely look, you will need to consider a couple of things when you hire a builder or plasterer to do the work. What configuration of curtains are you thinking of having? One layer or two layers? There needs to be enough space between the wall and the mock wall for the curtains to move easily. Are you planning on fitting the tracks to the ceiling? If so you will need at least 200mm in front of the existing cornice for two curtain tracks, more if you want 2 layers of S-fold curtains. This could intrude into the room quite a long way. I would recommend calling a specialty curtain retailer as well as a tradie, and I would definately recommend thinking about what your budget is going to be. Have fun! Jenny

The problem is Kate, I don’t know how they would attach to eyelet curtains. WD40 is not going to help the curtain get over the bump caused by the join in the rod.

use a small curtain ring hand sewed to the inside top hem of the curtain near the first eyelet and then attach the curtain pull rod clip to the ring so the pull hangs down behind the curtain.. you may have to sew the ring in a couple of different locations to find the ideal spot and always lift up the rod before puling sideways

So the rod would sit inside the curtain?

the rods hang down on the window side so they can't be seen from the room

I had this exact issue! Recently bought 2 clear curtain rod pulls (spotlight). Managed to attach them to the inside of the first eyelet by hooking them over from back. No sewing. They're not visible from the room, sit just inside the edge and blend well with the silver eyelet at the front.They work ok, better for the opening process. They'd probably be better if they were a bit more solid for heavy curtains like mine. When closing I still find I need to grab some of the curtain from the back with the rod at the same time but they do help to lift my heavy curtains a bit over extension part of the curtain rail where they previously always got caught. Hopefully you can see from the pics. Good luck with it
