Hello fabulous people. I’m hoping for some tips on how to choose the best rugs and pendant lights for my spaces. I have attached photos of the room if anyone has any suggestions?
There will be light grey blinds and sheers in future. Ignore the current rug and decor, they won’t be staying. The photos make the space look dark but it’s actually really light and bright in person.
Should I have rugs under both the couch and dining table? Pendants above both the dining table and island bench?
Hi Sarah, I would go with a large rug in the lounge- if you can get all four feet of the couch on it as well as the tv cabinet it will create a clear ‘lounge room’ zone. This will be a costly rug due to the size. You can choose a piece of carpet that you like and have it cut and edged to create a customised rug if your own. Adding a large pendant over the dining table will mark this as another separate zone. I am personally not a fan of pendant lights over the island, I just think they add clutter to the space and have been overused - I’m sure many will disagree. You can have another row of down lights over the island if you need task lighting there and add led lighting under your overheads at the back as an accent light that will create a soft wash of light down the splash back. Finally ( even though you didn’t ask!) the white powerpoint to the front of your island stands out agains the black and works against it, swapping this for a black outlet will help make it disappear.
Agree with a large rug under your sofa, I wouldn’t do pendants over kitchen unless it was a light bar, definitely a large pendant or pendants over table, I wouldn’t do rug in this area, it’s a gorgeous room.
Thanks Davincicalbourne - I actually hate the white PowerPoint and I didn’t even think to get a black cover! I like the idea of the led lighting under the overheads.
Julie I really like the rugs you posted. Any idea where I could find something like them?
I can’t change the sheers colour bigreader, they were ordered quite some time ago. The sheers are the lightest grey we could find. We wanted to avoid white as we were concerned about little visitors and grubby fingers.
