Is there a rule of thumb as to which way a door should open?
Comments (6)The room itself is galley style with the Outside door at one end and and the Internal door at the other end. Both doors open inwards to the room. The internal door is hung on the left and the external door on the right (vice versa if I'm looking from the opposite direction). Anyway, I have found the answer to my question, which is - that it doesn't matter. I appreciate everyone's comments. Cheers...See MoreCavity slider flush pulls... one side of door or both??
Comments (14)Thanks everyone. Our doors will mostly be open and no part of the door actually sticks out. They are completely flush with the door jamb. Hence the edge pulls that go along the spine of the door. And because they are completely flush, the handles/pulls cannot protrude in any way from the door. We too have a privacy lock on our bedroom door. I'm now leaning towards having flush handles on both sides/faces of the ensuite and study doors. As per the pantry and dry room doors, I think handles only on the side you enter are required as you're never going to close yourself in these rooms (unless you want to escape the kids)....See MoreHow much space is required to open fridge doors?
Comments (10)Hi Claire, our fridge is exactly 912 wide too - maybe the one you like is from the same range? Mine is an LG 4 door (712 litre). Anyway, I can tell you that this fridge has to have a minimum clearance each side of 20mm, so overall minimum space is 952, so your space of 930 would not be sufficient, and that's not addressing the need to open the door yet. I worked out it needs 400mm on each side to open the doors fully (a lot I know!). This could be a continuation of bench space or open space, but not a wall. We are about to renovate, and as oklouise can attest to, had many a design dilemma in trying to find a good position for the fridge! (I ended up adding 800mm to the extension!) French door fridges are very appealing, but I think you would find that appeal fades very quickly with the annoyance of trying to get at the fruit/veg drawer on that side. In practical terms, a single fridge door that opens away from the wall would make life easier....See MoreOpinions Please - Bed placement and door openings
Comments (4)In my opinion cavity sliders will not keep the aesthetic of the home. And this is not a new build it is a renovation, so cavity sliders may not be an option. My choice for the bed to be on the wall with other bedroom robes, is because it will be more private. When people are walking down the hall they will not look directly onto someone in bed, if the door is open. When someone is entering room, there is still privacy for a person in bed, because of the swing of door....See Moredreamer
