Create European laundry in storage space?

Hello,
My wife and I are expecting later this year.
We're living in a Queenslander, and the laundry is under the house. It's barely protected from the elements, and it's a bit of a hassle to get to.
Given the amount of washing we'll be doing in the near future, we were thinking of repurposing an existing storage cupboard (~ 1000 x 3500) to act as a European-style laundry.
The storage space is adjacent to the bathroom and the house is raised so it 'should' be relatively straightforward to connect the room to electricity and plumbing.
I don't know anything about renovations or what's required for a laundry in Queensland, so I thought I should reach out to people more in the know. The space is tight, but is it a deal-breaker? Should I be concerned about ventilation? Is this a terrible idea?
Thanks,
Alan
