Tiles against wood - will it look right?

We are building and we were planning on having the entrance wood floor then a few steps up, then tiled floor in the main kitchen/living area. We thought the steps would break up the 2 areas.Unfortunately we are unable to do the steps now. Builder says having the wood against the tile will look ok but I'm not sure? Should we just tile it all instead. Any advise appreciated.

Is there any reason you can't have wood through the kitchen and living as well? So much softer, warmer and more inviting looking than tiles..

My husband prefers tiles unfortunately. We were compromising by having some wood in the entry that leads to cantilever stairs which will be timber too.

Hi Gracie, it's common for people to change the direction of the tile when using the same flooring materials in different rooms. Totally up to you, whatever you think looks best. Personally, I agree with you and think changing it to flow with the hall is a good decision.

I will be the loan naysayer and go: Vinyl Plank timber pattern tiles. I did these in my kitchen and they helped make the room. Used Karndean, but any European brand should be fine (avoid American and assume they are using American or worse if they don't say the country of origin). http://www.karndean.com/en-au/floors/landing-pages/new-looselay-longboard?gclid=CjwKCAjwspHaBRBFEiwA0eM3kQ7eEFPH5FlK2IwV3o7ZsbbmJ19srG0OM_tWK5dhPMNyDdwxGPUr4BoCoYcQAvD_BwE Caveats: Ground must be FLAT. 100% flat, ruler FLAT. If not you will have to level. If flat, you can lay them yourself. Our floor had to be levelled and it was tough. still got a few high patches and gaps because of that. However I have done it on a concrete surface myself since and it's beautiful. Benefits: Nice and soft on the foot. (less ankle pain) single tile replacement. Looks fantastic. No PVC glue fume issues and fairly resilient. Do be wary though of metal chair legs scraping the floor. Waterproof! when installed right with no gaps! (why I would choose them in a kitchen over timber or Eeek carpet!.... Yes previous owner installed shagpile carpet in the kitchen).

Tiles against wood will look ok, it really comes down to the colour and tone of each material. I agree timber is nicer through the living areas and more forgiving if you drop anything on the floor, but married is a compromise. Is there wood anywhere else in the house or just the entrance? Thank you for your response.

The tiles are a light grey colour and the wood is a lighter grain ( see pic)

I am planning on adding some wood into the house to warm the interior a little as I'm worried lots of grey will make it feel cold. Not sure where to add it yet though.

Lots of grey tiles do not look cold. Especially the example you have chosen. If they were shiny, that would look bling bling and cold.. But Matt large 600x600 tiles with a rectified edge will look wonderful. The wood entrance will look good.
