What does recessed downlight mean?

A recessed downlight is a fitting which is installed by cutting a hole in the ceiling and fitting the downlight inside, rather than mounting the light on top of the ceiling. This hides the light source in the ceiling and makes it less noticeable and reduces glare, particularly in cone shaped downlights which have a deep recess. These lights generally have a narrow beam angle, meaning they create pools of light which is great for setting the mood and avoiding obtrusive, harsh lighting. These lights avoid the line of sight and land directly on work surfaces, reducing strain on the eyes.
