Hi Jen and everyone else who has made a comment. You always need to consider your personal use in a space, if there is a lot of water involved tiles a definitely the best choice. Timber look alike tiles just like the Hampton style is a bit fashionable at present like many things were before. What is really important is to really love what you select or what someone may select for you. If you love the selections then they will work for you for many years to come and if they are proportionately correct and balanced and not clashing with other choices; suiting your climatic and general environment and effectively in harmony with there surrounds then these choices will work for others too down the track. Poor choices and poor design which is not well thought through is really the true reason for why things seem date or they just do not work. So all in all Jen timber tiles may be the best choice based on what you have told us about your space.

Hi annb, it wasn't meant to be rude I have wonderful Amercian friends and they agree that things are out of control there, if you look at someone the wrong way you're likely to get sued, Australia has started do do similar. I'am totally against compensation in this situation as it will never make you like it, if the tiler has changed what he agreed to then he has to make good.. When you are doing reno's you need to be there if possible or a written duplicated plan of what has been agreed to needs to be done. I feel very sorry for Kylie that this has happened and is causing so much distress, it needs to be fixed.

Hi creativelychallenged, I'm pretty sure all the tiles are faux-marble from Beaumont Tiles. I've used them in bathrooms and they are cost-effective (from $40sqm un-laid) and look beautiful. Marble and now faux-marble is a classic look so not prone to dating. You may have noticed its recent popularity due to the faux-marble now available as the average homeowner may not have the budget for real marble. People worry about decor 'dating' - think about what you love, what will make you happy to live with - decor doesn't last forever because our own tastes change and decor can suffer from wear and tear. Choose what you LOVE and you can't go wrong :-)

expensive to lay them but worth the money, the bathroom looks fresh and contemporary but more contrast could have been used maybe the floor tile running up the end shower wall, may have been a highly pattened tile, or different shape, smaller of bigger tiles, but that is nit picking. love the timber vanity maybe a bit to close to the floor, but 9 out of 10.
