Built in wardrobes butting up to window??
Guys, I’m totally stuck on how to run a built in wardrobe along a wall that has a wide window right up to the end. I’ve looked at ideas of putting a desk in at the end, but it wouldn’t sit flush with the wardrobe as the window is so close to wall, if that makes sense??? You can see in image (this is prior
to paint and floors etc!) from imprint on the floor, that the previous owner just had a freestanding wardrobe with a bit of a space before window. Any advice is much appreciated!!!

last yearSomething along the lines of these photos would work. The air vent may need to be kept clear, also need access to power point, which would be handy if you install a small desk in that area.

Comments (9)Personally, I'd prefer a WIR as opposed to a large "wall" of cupboards. I like the ability to open a single door and see all my clothes, rather than opening and closing multiple doors for various bits and pieces (e.g. pants in one cupboard, shirts in another). I think the WIR would be cheaper as nice cabinetry for the second option could be expensive. And I think the WIR would be better for resale value. Also, it's just a personal opinion, but the example photo reminds me of a gym locker room. Comments (13)I don't particularly like the sight line straight to the toilet. Don't forget towel hanging. I'm going to assume that triangular space to the right hand side is immovable? I'd also mirror the bedroom door to open against the Robe, and the robe door to open against the wall especially if you put doors on the cabinetry (otherwise you'll have to play door jenga there). Can the toilet go into the bath corner, and bath under the window, with a nice vanity for storage and layout space. And what wall treatment are you thinking for the curved wall, you won't get large tiles on it, will need to be fairly small or narrow ones to follow the curve. I'd square it up, the curve doesn't seem to reference anything else, and you'll gain some flat walls for hanging or full sized mirror etc (and be cheaper to build)....See MoreCompact bedroom built-in robe layout
Comments (12)Here is the rest of the floorplan oklouise. The built-in in Bed 2 is 600mm and in Bed 3 is 550mm, and this space is in addition to the measurements on the plan. Walls could be moved about, but we need to be able to live-in during renovations. Also the slightly wider section of hallway adjacent to Bed 3 acts as the main entrance so it really needs to remain at its current width to be practical. The 'study' is more of a study-nook in an extension of the hallway leading to a detached garage and workshop, so that is why there is a external door. Comments (8)Hi okLouise, thank you for your message. We are adding to our second story on our Californian bungalow. Just planning phase now. It’s presently a rumpus room with balcony (bathroom area) and all the existing windows are being removed and replaced (rotting sash windows and thin glass) so we can add these too. We could also swap the bathroom and wardrobe around too, the plumbing is fine either way. I think it might be useful for other family members to have access to the toilet, we have another toilet upstairs but it’s within the other bathroom. The bedroom faces west so gets the direct afternoon sun. The left (wardrobe side) faces the neighbours house so I’d need frosted windows that side if any. Thank you!...See Moredavincicalbourne
