front fence colour

Hi everyone we’re getting a front fence installed and I’m a bit conflicted about the colour scheme, so that it would look the best, as we have one main colour (cream) on the house, and a grey/ navy detail. I’d like some opinions on whether I should choose either just the cream or the grey/navy, or have a combination of both colours, with one colour on the slats and the contrast colour on the uprights. I’ve attached a photo of our house and the style of fence we’re looking at (colorbond aluminium). I’d appreciate your thoughts

Thank you so much. I was heading in that direction, but wasn’t 100% sure. The other thing I need to say is that the colour is close to, but not exactly the same as any colorbond colour. As it’s not up against it, and there’s a fair distance I’m hoping it doesn’t matter 🙏🏽

While there are no pictures of your house , so I accept that the existing fence may not suit the house , as a fence I actually like it , and would try and use it as a 'base' . Depending on the primary house colours , I'd paint the gates and those filligres or whatever they are called , in a black gloss , and try and add a cap to each pillar , and even a top along the fence , wider than the brick . Taking inspiration from what you term the 'japanese' slats , how about raise the pillars ( in matching brick ) 250-300mm , and add a couple of 100x25 timber rails , or 4 or 5 30x30 ones in that mid redwood stain ? If you house totally doesn't suit the fence , how about rendering or plastering , or even use it but disguise it with vines and shrubs , even use concrete nails to attach battens and then attach the iron ? To demolish the existing fence , and especially changing the front fence line , won't achieve much IMO , except reasonably substantial extra cost .

Do a horizontal wider board slat fence. You could still do it in Monument. The fine vertical batons look great but will date very quickly I suspect.

I have always thought black goes well with your coloured brick. So dark, like you already have, but darker. And a simple fence, a good variety is available from Stratco or similar retail stores. But I think landscaping with shrubs and flowering plants, would improve the facade the most.

Personally, I think it's absolutely fine for the fence color to change as you enter the gate into the back garden. Since you can't see both the front and back fences simultaneously, it shouldn't be too noticeable. Plus, it's your space, so go for what makes you happy! I am sure it will look beautiful as it’s close to your trim colour and at a distance it will blend in well, plus once planting is added it will look great, agree with bigreader, all one colour. You could incorporate a stylish letter box into the design

Agreed - all one colour and close to house trim. If you have to choose a colourbond colour that is slightly darker or lighter go with darker- darker colours tend to disappear more than light and will be a nice backdrop behind any greenery you plant behind it giving you a lovely aspect from the house.

Big Reader, Julie and Davinci, many thanks to you all. Yes, I’m really happy with all your suggestions, and they have cemented what my initial thoughts were. I thought the cream would be too bland. Agreed that the stronger colour will make the fence pop. And yes, I’ve been looking at letterboxes and will go with a good looking one in chrome, which will tie in the house roof. Thanks once again 😊👍🏼
