3 pendants done above the island would be great IMO -- downlights have no real feature to them , they just do their job . But pendants add a touch of style and drama if done right , and even bring in some colour , which , without being too rude , isn't the existing designs strong point !

And whilst not part of the brief , but why have that gap above the cupboards ? I realise you have greenery there , but its pretty much a waste of valuable storage space , and it may make pendants or even downlights look a bit odd and disjointed !

I love your little seedlings hanging in front of the window, where did you get them.

I would suggest a simple long Bar style light hanging over the island

@pottsy99 Hmm good point about the gap up the top! This is a recent purchase, so I bought it this way!! Including it’s very neutral look :-) It does need the space above the oven range (I think?) as it’s not vented out the wall or anything. But never thought about the gap being a waste of space or making lights look odd!

The greenery is simply because I have too many plants and too little space 😅

Can you find a piece of gnarled up old driftwood a metre or so long ? It will be the basis of a pendant/drop light , a work of art , a talking point !

Hmm maybe that would be too coastal 😅 it’s a small space all around the area.
I’m now thinking more about the space above the cupboards and wonder if something more simple/Nordic would work?
Otherwise, I really like rattan. But I think I will do that over the dining table which is close by and choose something here that is long, but simple.. hmm.
