black or gold tapware?

Replacing the tapware in our white (with grey floor) ensuite.

Door handles are black. Existing tapware & towel rails are silver.
We were going to go black tapware, but the plumber said black was the thing for the last 5-7years, now everyone is going gold/brass.

House is MCM. Adjacent bedroom has French provincial & antique furniture charcoal carpet.

Going around in circles. Black makes sense but should we consider nickel or brass instead? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wouldn’t call Black an upgrade. Truly good old chrome will have the most longevity in maintenance and style. If you must have an upgrade, the brushed nickel is the way to go and has been in Australia for a while.

In my opinion, although black tapware is not as trendy as brushed nickel or gunmetal, it is timeless that will definitely match with a MCM style bathroom, plus it also matches with your door handle. Gold is also good as it can add a warm tone to your bathroom that will make it feel more uplifting. Both colours are fine, it you can't decide, you might choose the one that will match with the colour of your vanity. Just keep in mind to choose a matte finish rather than a gloss finish.
