Is $20k allowance enough for a kitchen?

I am a first time home owner and will be building the house this year. I never thought I would be building my first home and accept I am probably naive about the whole process so any advice is greatly appreciated. I’m building with a small local builder who has given me a quote after seeing my plans. The builder has given an allowance of $20,000 for the kitchen. We have not discussed options and and/or designs for the kitchen however I have mentioned i want stone benchtops (engineered stone). This allowance includes appliances and butlers pantry. The dimensions for the kitchen are approx 5.5m x 4m with an island bench. The allowance seems pretty low to me and possibly unrealistic. I imagined the kitchen would cost around 30k - 35 k but then again I’m new to all of this. Anyways, I don’t want to get caught out for when I design the kitchen and all of a sudden I’m paying 10k - 15k out of my pocket. Is 20k too low? Should I be asking for a larger allowance?
