Replacing French doors with sliding doors
Comments (5)To change to cavity doors you will need to remove the wall each side of the doors to accommodate the cavity housing. Normal sliding doors would make a difference but the problem with them is they never stay totally closed and they do become quite noisy and annoying. This problem also applies to double cavity doors. The other option is to use bi-fold doors, they won't intrude into the room as much. Do you really need two doors there at all and is the glass above the doorway necessary? My personal preference would be to fill it all in and just have the one door to the room. You could even re-use one of your doors....See MoreUsing interior door as a front door
Comments (2)if the door is solid wood (you can usually tell because it will be very heavy) and the putty and or timber mouldings supporting the glass is carefully repaired and the hinges and door handles are replaces and sealed all around and the door is painted on all SIX sides with a good quality paint/varnish it should be OK but no door will withstand the full blast of hot sun and rain so hope there is a porch or wide eaves for protection...a light weight hollow door will probably only last long enough to save up for a new door, so hope the retro door works for you...btw make sure the door is resized and installed to suit all the extra coats of paint and have the security door made last as old style door thicknesses can affect the installation requirements and costs of the security door...See MoreVictorian house - adding internal glass hallway door?
Comments (7)These period arch features are mid-passage details that need to be managed carefully. Any introduced doors should ideally positioned away for the archways and allow them to breathe appropriately in order to best preserve the effect of the original character detail and vibe. You have to make a decision one way or the other. Either new doors are positioned and articulated independently/separated reasonably from the arch, or if the doors need to be where the archway is currently, then arguably they need to replace the archway and be articulated as the end of the passage with the apporpriate cornice and architraving detail to tie apporpriately...See Morefront door suggestions
Comments (10)Is this your house , or a beach house ? That inside shot is 'okay' -- I quite like the stairs ( although I suspect it would need side protection to meet regulations ) and the tiles and wall is okay in small doses haha . Without knowing the condition of anything , or what upstairs external looks like , I'd be tempted to pick a colour ( like the blue , or a red or orange or green that suits ) and do the front of the terrace , the garage door and the entrance door in that , and probably keep going and do gutters and other trim . Then I'd get black or charcoal , do the door and window frames in it , as well as the supports , any fences , etc . $200-300 of paint , plus labour ( free if you do it yourself) will give a fresh look , then start on the inside haha , or add suitable landscaping -- flax and cactus and lancewoods , maybe a big glazed pot in your chosen colour with a plant or 17 ....See Morepottsy99
