I have had almost the exact same dilemma in the past few weeks with my reno (white shaker kitchen and all white cabinetry through the house and all of the door handles, taps and other trims and lacanche stove trims are polished chrome). I found that it was impossible to find polished chrome handles in Australia at the moment (especially those strong enough for integrated appliances and big single door cupboards that were less than approx 50 cm (or even bigger) long) at anything less than completely unaffordable prices. Instead there were many brushed nickel options (and even more in brass and bronze tones or black or Matt white or wood)? My cabinetmaker also encouraged me to choose brushed nickel handles (have gone with Lo & Co kintore pulls).

All to say, save yourself the agony of searching in vain for what does not seem to readily exist anyway! (Though if you are not limited by handle sizes like I was, there is the Brontë range from Hepburn Hardware that is available in polished chrome and quite similar in style to what your cabinetmaker is suggesting). I still prefer the brushed nickel now that I have got my head around it.

I was really relieved to see that others were doing the same pairing of polished chrome and brushed nickel and that no one thought it was a strange pairing!

Oh thank you so so much. I really appreciate your advice. I agree totally a lot of the shiny chrome handles look very cheap. I have gone with the brushed nickel mixing bar and little knobs so fingers crossed it all looks good. 🙏🏻🤞

Me again. Kitchen went in and I just love it. Went with the handles in the photos and just love them.
However the problem is that the island bar and my Esse stove not the same colour.
We went to a laser colour match company to see if we did again if we could do better. They said they could get closer but with one enamel and one matt its not as easy as you would think. The stove is going in a terrazzo alcove.
I guess my question is will it look ok with the two different tones.

Hi Kerrie. Your kitchen is looking gorgeous - congrats on the progress and I agree your handle choices are perfect. My new kitchen starts to go in in a weeks time….
Just a couple of thoughts on the colour dilemma of the island vs the stove. My stove (a lacanche) is also enamel and also sits in an old chimney breast separated from the island. (I have had it for about 8 years in a similar set up, so have some experience of this). The interior of the chimney breast tends to make colours read different as it is a bit darker. Also, the colours change throughout the day and under artificial light at night. My parents have a lighter blue enamel stove (more delft blue) and it also appears to change colour throughout the day. In your case this seems the same and the stove colour is also going to be broken up with the lovely terrazzo tile you have lining your chimney breast. Also, once your lighter benchtops go onto your kitchen (esp the island) and the kitchen walls are painted this is again going to break the colour up more. In this case, I really wonder whether having the island and the stove the exact same colour is going to be as important. Might not the slightly deeper/richer blue island emphasise and hero the blue of the stove to your eye given the surrounding space and lighter colours. Maybe if your island were also the duller blue, the island and the stove could read a bit more washed out grey rather than blue which could be a shame.
Really what I am saying is that if it were me and the undertone of the stronger colour of the island does not look wrong when you look at the island and stove in situ, then I would stick with it. You will never get it exact and it will change throughout the day and under lights at night anyhow. Maybe you could adjust the warmness/coolness or stringent of the light globes used in kitchen to further blur the difference?
I have found that it is easy to sweat the details in isolation in a way that once the room is together others will not see the individual tiny details that you have agonised over and that they will fade from your view too.
However if it still feels wrong and worrying in a few days (eg if it makes your island feel purple rather than blue), then perhaps consider the repaint? You don’t want to have it torture you for years to come.
I have attached a picture of my stove in the old kitchen to give you an idea of the difference in light that I have found.

Yes what you have said makes such sense. We think if we try and match the stove perfectly the island is going to have less impact in the room and look a bit dull in comparison. We are installing the stove into its position this week and will get a better look of how they work together. I will send updated photos.
