Off centre taps on vanity Good Idea?

We are adding a 1500 duel sink vanity in en-suite. A bathroom supplier has suggested putting the taps at extreme rear corners of bowls. I like this idea as it leaves the centre of the rectangular bowl clear for shaving & cleaning my teeth. My wife prefers the traditional rear centre location. The supplier did say that males like the off centre location more than females. How can I convince my wife?

I’d prefer centred. But you need to consider both the size and style of the tap and basin.

It all depends on whether tap and spout are attached, how far spout extends over basin, whether basin is flat bottomed or not, whether left handed or not and ease of access to tap.

All these factors need to be sorted out first. I'd work out how easy it is to use the taps you've selected. Side is better for splash in some instances. And if you do off centre are they both going to be on right/left or are they going to be mirrored.

I think it is because if the tap handle doesn’t overhang the sink then wet hands drip water over the bench behind the sink. I have an undermount sink with same issue due to required setback from sink and we are learning to shake hands before turning off tap. Pro for wall mount no gunk around base of tap Negative according to my husband who refused to have wall mounted is the tap connections are in wall so if you get any leaks it’s hard to fix. But this goes same for shower I guess. We did have a faulty basin tap that leaked inside the handle area and down into cabinet so had to get replaced so I didn’t-push for wall mounted again.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say. We have a butlers pantry, smallish, with a sink in it. The pantry has become effectively a walk-in pantry, with storage, a wine fridge and the toaster and microwave. It's very useful, but we almost never use the sink because there isn't enough practical counterspace and because, well, who wants to do dishes in a closet? We also have an island, with a single basin sink in it, and of course the dishwasher. That's where we do prep, and it works just fine for us. We can watch TV while pealing spuds or washing those dishes that don't go into the dishwasher. Even with the sink, there's still plenty of prep space, and we have a good work triangle between sink, oven on the wall directly behind it, and fridge, oven and pantry on the end wall. In practical terms, the arrangement works for us. When we entertain, we clean up and load the dishwasher as we go, dump the pots and pans in the butler's pantry, wipe off the bench, and we're good to go. And since it's only a single basin undermount sink, the look is clean enough for us.

the problem with this combination is that unless the tap is located extra high there is difficulty doing normal handbasin things like using a glass, or scooping water to wash your face...we have a similar tap over a drop in basin ...the tap allows the water to fall into the centre of the basin but the tap is too long and too low for comfort ... raising the tap would interfere with the wall mirrors so tap will be changed to a tall counter mounted tap for easier use and we never considered a raised handbasin for all the same reasons and imo they make any but super sized vanities look so cluttered

Looks like I'll be going with the flick tap, offset at 2pm to the right of the round vessel basin, mounted in the centre of the top of the vanity (not semi-recessed). Any thoughts on whether the vessel basin should be bang in the middle, or offset to the left slightly to balance the tap being on the right?

I also think you need a better picture to convince your wife as the example you have shown would have looked much better with the taps centred (although perhaps not as long).

Remember these is less splash if water falling over a slope rather than flat bottom

Also your argument about space for shaving supplies makes no real sense to me as I doubt you'd store things behind basin (especially in a beautiful new ensure with hopefully decent storage)

Sorry I've realised I didn't read what you meant properly. You were not wanting to spit on tap! Fair enough, get a shorter spout

That example the taps have to be off centre as not enough bench width to mount the tap behind the large bowl. On the plus side easier to clean around, on the negative prob more awkward to use and that set up it draws you to the taps in odd location rather than other aesthetics.
