Our flooring is Spotted Gum colour. While the water based stain that builder got from Bunnings is Spotted gum. However both are absolutely different colours. Feeling so disheartened. How to fix it? Adding any tint helps? It's already 2 coats done.
That looks like stain not paint. Staining yellows with age. And colour matching is trial and error. We’re both areas sanded back to natural grain first?
You’re comparing apples with oranges. The fix and go timber is just a colour. In all likelihood it’s not actually comprised of spotted gum. As above colour matching is an art skill that requires many many samples and then depending on the base wood of the stairs it may never be exact. Up to your exactitude to how close a match you can live with. Your choices are live with it or have the stain sanded off the stairs and to start to doing patch samples to find a match you like.
You could also spend the money and have the floating floor installed on the stairs. This can be tricky because of the treatment of the lip of the tread. Not all floating floor ranges have the needed edge as part of the range.
Seems like a tough luck! Will check with Bunnings tomorrow, if adding brown or black tint gets it anywhere closer to what am after. I have painter assigned to our house only till Monday. So whatever needs to be done, should be quick now :(
