Comments (20)The whole thing is very 'beige'. If you're planning on renting it, that's fine. if you're living there, you need to give it some personality. It reminds me of going to look at rental units when I was young. And personally, I hate the picture you found for the wall - too busy and just looks like you're trying too hard to add a 'pop' of colour so I hope you haven't bought that! I'd pick out some cushions in the same colours as the rug - so orange, red, black - and you could throw some green in there too as it looks like the plants you have are close to that room - put a couple of plants in there as well to liven things up. (Just noticed you do have a couple that I didn't even notice!) The long wall, that seems to run right through your apartment, I would paint a different colour so it's not all beige. A less expensive thing to do if it is where you are living - is to get some family photos up - lots in small frames work together, or photos of any travels you may have done - places you love. You can paint the outline of a large frame on your wall, and then put smaller framed photos inside which you can contniue to update as you life changes. Lay it out on the floor first to make sure it looks good together....See MoreFirst Home Design - Inputs and suggestions required
Comments (9)All of the following are unprofessional comments: - The "view" upon entering the house isn't the best (i.e. just a long hallway and then the side of the TV). I'd think about including some sky lights or other design features to make your entry unique and interesting. - Bed 4 is a long way from the main bathroom. I'd consider trying to put Bed 4 where the "play" room is and turning Bed 4 into the "play" room (or just combining the formal living room and "play" room into a single, generously sized, multi-purpose room). - I can't read what the small "room" next to the walk in pantry is. Is that meant to be a powder room? If it's a linen cupboard, then the linen cupboard on the opposite wall could be removed and the BIR for Bed 2 extended. - the study "nook" appears to be really big in comparison to the size of the kitchen island, etc. If it's intended to be big enough for two workstations, then that's fine, but it seems very generous given the other spaces in the house. - I'd have another think about the positioning of the various appliances, etc in the kitchen, especially the location of the kitchen sink. It seems like an awkward spot for the kitchen sink since you'll be backed up against the end of the island. A butler's pantry, with a sink, seems like an unnecessary extravagance for a house of this size. - Bed 3 seems quite small. If you moved the door to the main bedroom up a little and made the hallway narrower, then you could expand the size of Bed 3. If you changed the location of the door to the main bedroom to be accessible from the living room, then you'd remove the need for the hallway. The current BIR in Bed 3 seems to be so small that it's value is questionable. Maybe it could be repositioned to the shared wall with the hallway. - If, as the dedicated "play" room suggests, you're going to have multiple children, I'd consider turning the main bathroom into a three-way bathroom (separate toilet, separate vanity, separate bath / shower / wet room). If you had a three way bathroom, then your toilet wouldn't necessarily need to function as a powder room for guests either. It's currently quite crammed with the toilet and small sink. - There appear to be a lot of random cupboards throughout the house in the various hallways. That may be due to the small size of some of the BIR, but I'd be tempted to either use that space to increase the size of the rooms or open up the hallways a little more. Maybe you could include some cupboards in the garage for storage? - I'd give some more thought to the positioning of furniture in the combined living / dining room. I'm not sure how practical it is to have the main viewing sofa on the opposite wall to the TV. Unless you have a BIG TV, then you may want your sofa closer. - If the ensuite had a sliding door instead of a hinged door, then you may be able to move the toilet further into the ensuite and make the WIR a bit bigger. It looks a little small for a WIR at the moment. Good luck!...See More80's nightmare
Comments (21)By the look of your reception area I think you like industrial look, it's very much in fashion and easy to achieve. Paint walls white and add A bit of wrought iron and timber in the decorations . Here are some chairs to consider you can find them relatively cheap in replica furniture shops. For the floors I would go floating laminate floors but you have to be careful what colour you get , it needs to look pale like weathered timber or opposite really dark, no orangey looking timber. You can use large clocks and old mirrors for decor as well. For the bathroom go plain B&W with new shower screen. If you change the design a bit you might need only one piece of glass and no door on the shower , it would save a bit of money. Your mental above the fire place is looking a bit busy remove small objects and have a vase with fresh flowers instead, or couple smaller pots with flowering plants in it like Orchids etc....See MoreA refurb kitchen project
Comments (16)Very nice! It looks bright and airy. Looks like you pretty much kept the same layout and preserved the essential character of this kitchen. I concur with your thoughts expressed above about people being too quick about ripping out and buying new instead of refurbishing something existing that is perfectly fine. As a result I think there is an overall bland, samey-samey look to many modern "do-overs". This is very much in keeping with the over-riding design ethic I am using in my own 60's house make-over. I call it "Designer Frugal". I am an artist by profession, so the "designer" part comes fairly easily to me and the "Frugal" part...........well, I don't have much to splash around, so that's a no-brainer!...See Moreoklouise
