I would like to know too as I am considering them as a side light on the front door

I only have experience with older louvres , but from what I have seen , even with modern ones , is they don't seal 100% , so there will always be a bit of breeze and they tend to be colder in winter . There is also a bit of a problem that they can often be wiggled loose -- good if you lose your house keys , not so good if it isn't you trying to get in .

They need a certain distance to open ( say 80-100mm ? ) , which means flyscreens and the like would have to be set a fair way away from the window -- I'm guessing most louvres are recessed into a window frame , but on larger windows you may end up with extra ugly brackets and supports and possibly framing , to hold the flyscreen 'out' , but still have some support and rigidity .

Top hinged windows with lock tabs , or sliding windows with a spring lock to allow say 20mm opening , would probably achieve the same , but be safer and warmer and still allow air entry if required .

Spoke to some windows manufacturers. Cons are poor seal for both air and sound - don’t use in bedrooms because of the sound issues. Cant really double glazed them (and still have they look good). Expensive. Fly screens really detract from the I’ll of them.

Pros - really good air flow when fully open. Look good, although this could be a passing fad- i suspect it will be given they don’t perform well from an energy efficiency point of view

I don’t think louvred windows are a passing fad. In the correct environment they are very helpful in providing cooling air flow. Technology has now given us air conditioning, but when they were invented in 1901, that was not an option. There is nothing better than natural cooling fresh air. If it was a fad, then why are they still used today in new builds.? 120 years later.

They are expensive in comparison but great for breeze. Supplier should be able to supply screens with them. Can't be double glazed though I would assume.

Here are a few cons of louvre windows -

• Difficulty Cleaning: The slats of Louvre windows can be difficult to clean, as they are positioned horizontally and can be hard to reach with a cleaning cloth or brush. You may need to use a special tool or take the window apart to properly clean the slats.
