Feature privacy wall design help

We want to put an arbour or some kind of green feature to hide this ugly outlook from our family room. We have travertine right out to 1m from the fenceline, and have some travertine leftover for possible seating. Would love some ideas and pictures if anyone can assist. I would like it to be a feature, not just a plain screen, maybe involve a water feature? The width is 6m and our alfresco area roof only covers about 2/3 of the tiled area. Distance from house door to end of travertin is approx 7m. Looking towards fence is looking west, so gets quite glary late summer afternoons. We do a lot of entertaining.

You could add staggered timber behind a planter box for a beautiful look, screens and a vertical garden, inbuilt seating with raised garden beds and trees for shade or a water feature.

You could add decorative screens that can be backlit at night, seating and a fire pit, use the extra travertine for seating, add lots of greenery that grows well in your area.

I found the following photos that may assist in getting the look you want. You are right the white furniture will make the purple wall pop. It can still work with your grey suite, just not on the same wall as the suite. Your TV wall sounds like the best option, but before you paint the whole wall, try painting a large piece of board that you can prop against the wall for a few days. This will let you see it under different light conditions at various times of the day. [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=] Accessories are important, complementary area rug (pic 3) , coordinating cushions and some artwork (pic 2) will tie it all together. Key is not to over do it with too much furniture - keep it simple. I am not a fan of fishtanks in the living room, unless you are really up for maintaining it, as they can quickly become murky and could spoil the fresh look you want to achieve. A high storage unit might be more practical and useful as in pic 4. White timber blinds instead of the curtains, definitely, with side drapes to contrast. I'm afraid you will have to repaint the other wall and when you do find a big piece of artwork to hang there instead. Oh wow, Kelly, good for you!! Love the detail and colour of ceiling rose, and the chandelier. Scottevie makes a very good point about the chandelier needing to not be detracted from, but hard to tell from the angle of the photo whether that is the case or not. IF you were to go with blue sheers, I suggest you change the lamp shades for larger ones in linen/white/champagne colour, as there would then be a bit too much of the same blue and I think there needs to be more contrast.

Not sure I'd be in a hurry to create a home where you open the front door onto a dining table and chairs. I'd say it's very likely that that little partitiion wall is holding up the roofspan and it may be costly to remove. If you look at the floorplan you can see the walls run vertical right through the centre of the house. I wonder what is not working about this layout? Even with the wall removed you will still have to turn left or right when you enter the house anyway. Just removing storage won't change that. I would be more inclined to remove the ugly storage and replace it with something more attractive that works for you in the space. Like a cloak and shoes closet or similar. Turn that entry into an attractive mudroom. Then it is no longer just wasted space with annoying blank walls near the door. But a proper entry with a useful purpose. Then the irritation of it will go away. People are always quick to decide they need to remove walls in a home when in fact that may not be the real problem at all.

How tall are you allowed to go on the boundary by your council rules?

How tall do you need for shade?

How tall has your neighbour agreed to for sun access to their rooms?

How much maintenance are you up for?

I wouldn't do a water feature. I've seen too many which look silly with the neighbours clothesline or whatever poking up above. If you don't have the space to do something around a water feature to make it look like it belongs in the landscape, don't do it. If you do have the space then you might not even need a water feature, and the maintenance that goes with it.

A lush hedge, with or without added features, has so many benefits especially on the western side, but a garden bed only 1m wide is limiting so requires careful plant choice and regular pruning.

If what you're thinking now is attaching something to the fence, do you want it to look faux? The best faux's in my opinion are the ones which look realistic and the faux aspect is only for reasons unrelated to appearance. Faux cladding on something which sits well in the landscape is one thing but an impossibly thin and tall stone-looking wall stuck in the middle of nothing in particular is another.

I think you would need a frame to attach the faux stone panels, you would need expert advice, Google faux stone panels, you could always do a stone water feature against your fence, this could look beautiful.
