A bit hard to know what to say here if it's only the fence colour you are wanting opinions on. I would definately go for black or dark charcoal for the fence, but I agree that it may not work with the house. The problem is the cream colour is very outdated. If you put a cream fence it will work better with the house as it is now, but then you are stuck with an outdated colour scheme. If it was me I would probably do a dark charcoal fence, and then slowly work on updating the colour scheme of the actual house - for example, the same charcoal for the garage doors, posts, colourbond fence, shed etc. But it would come down to budget, I guess.

My mother in law has a row of about 4-5 running along her driveway and fence. They look good, have grown slowly but after about 5 years are about 2.5m high, almost a full tear drop shape. They're still very much an individual tree shape, rather than having grown together visually to be a hedge as such, but they look lovely in a row. Sorry I don't have any photos though. They're against a fence that faces north but only get the midday-afternoon sun and are well protected from wind. Otherwise they're very low maintenance.

Thanks for the suggestions. I knew the brains trust would offer good options. Blue board looks interesting. I need whatever I use to be at least 15mm thick so that there aren't any toehold edges between the lattice and the surround frame. Yes we thought of painting the fence and perhaps contrast bamboo in front. Mini orb I don't think would work because the corrugations leave gaps between it and the lattice.

I grow these and it looks like sun scorching, I find they need a lot more water during summer, I would up the watering, pull the mulch away from the trunk so that the water penetrates the soil, the heat radiating from the fence could cause a very warm area, don’t despair they are really tough, you will get them back .
