Large ensuite/walk in robe but no storage space!
Comments (6)In the ensuite, a towel shelf above the bath taps, not too deep but could use the full width of the wall to store extra towels, bath mats etc. There looks like room above the hamper for a double towel rail (one above the other or one with two rails or double hooks instead of the single ring). May need to move the laundry hamper to the other side of the bath neary the bedroom door. WIR, suggest you just use this for hanging space and if you haven't already get a couple of good size dressers in the main bedroom that would store all your folded items - may not be any need to go to the expense of building another wardrobe. Take down the shelving racks, work out how to optimise the space available for the cloths you need to hang. Tops and pants on double rails or get some trouser racks and shoe racks, do you need much long hanging space, would you store coats in here or is there other storage elsewhere. A high shelf above the hanging could be used for out of season or special occasion clothes stored in suitable boxes. I have attached a photo of our recent custom wardrobe fit out as we don't have a walk in in this house and have had to make the best use of the space available. I measured and drew it up on graph paper first then we installed Neata and Elfa units. Still waiting on the top racks to arrive though to complete it. You will be surprised how much hanging space you can get with double rails. There are plenty of options for shoe storage racks if you want to include these in your walk in or cupboards that could be unobtrusive in your bedroom. Good luck and I hope this helps....See MoreAre windows in shower area feasible to give more light to ensuite.
Comments (26)Thanks once again oklouise for your comments. I have already been told by the draughtsman that I cannot put in skylights. No idea if this is true but he seemed quite sure and it was he who 'designed' the layout of said ensuite with what I consider a too small window because of ease of plumbing and drainage. He says that can be changed...............Supposedly only put like that to get the oversize plan in fir consent. This department is only interested in the outside view and the effect on the neighbours, which I actually dont have any. The positioning of the ensuite and WiR has changed too from the first plan as I had to come 'out' of my bedroom into a corridor past the WiR door and then into the ensuite. Technically they were both in my bedroom as had not entered the hallway but did not seem like it. So the wall you have now suggested for the door is a small lobby to the bedroom and I had planned to put furniture on it and a full length mirror. I will now look again at the whole space with three zones to see what can be done. I used the word solar tube as I thought that was the generic name for the 'tube' installed which reflected light into a room. Do they cause draughts? Have had no experience of them but will probably want to install one in my scullery (or Butler's kitchen) but am going to work in it a few months before deciding that. I am really quite a novice about function of installations and of building code....See MoreEn-suite or not in main bedroom ?
Comments (55)I think you should explore the idea of getting a Pod on the deck. its like a mini granny flat / cabana with toilet and small multi purpose room. You might have the space for this. Your layout looks fine as it is, and if you have a covered pergola, a second toilet in a pod will works well there. I am a bit against adding plumbing and moving walls to your house. First its a mess. lots of putting pipes under the flooring, fixing the flooring again, also ceiling and conrice works, and you end up with smaller bed, tighter layout. Too much sacrifice and not too much to gain....See MoreRenovation plans _ Help! Bathroom/Ensuite ideas
Comments (32)I hope you don't mind... seeing the external pics I have a totally different idea! But don't worry I don't expect you to actually use it, and it's just a rough sketch. You don't need to extend the footprint at all in my opinion. based on the picture of the front of house your drawing is a bit out... the entry stair actually sits to the left of the front door I think. so there is a little more room there, but i'm not sure if its wide enough. So maybe there is enough room to put a hallway back in and create a master suite upstairs? The front deck becomes a private retreat and I put the bath out there! It's only accessible from the master and bed 4. If you don't need that many bedrooms maybe even leave the master and bed 4 combined and have a huuuuge master area. there's still the study downstairs that could also be a spare bedroom. I thought as the front deck is so private it could be really luxurious. The old kitchen becomes the walk-through robe and ensuite. The new kitchen goes straight under the old, and the kitchenette becomes the bathroom, accessible from the pool. the downstairs kitchen is connected to the dining and living, but the posts define the areas. The kitchen can have a halfwall with a servery-style opening between the posts, and will still have that connection. I didn't draw it in on the downstairs picture, but the entry needs to be pushed a little forward and then the stairs run up from the left corner and arrive where the original entry was upstairs. The downstairs living is accessed straight from the entry at front and opens onto the front patio, under the back deck becomes the back patio. I feel like you have less new to build and retain more of the original layout. in fact the upstairs bathroom is entirely intact....See More- 2 years ago
