Porch Flooring Query

Hi all, we have two entryways. They are under cover, protected on two sides, with a timber screen on a third side. Picture 👇🏻 (landscaping still to come. The floor is part of the concrete slab the house is built on. Leading up to them is patterned pavers. I know the obvious option are external (ie slip resistant) tiles, but I wondered if there was an alternative?

I believe there is an epoxy resin floor which can be laid over cement sheeting which can have a polished cement floor look. Could be a solution? www.aaasexyfloors.com.au is one website that has some info that you might find helpful.

It looks to be the underside of a beautiful hardwood timber floor. It might be wise to consider whether a new ceiling with insulation for that upper floor is needed in winter. All white would look good for a crisp finish & some colour on the wall. I personally would look at the area as a whole project & what look you are after. It may be that to make it look finished against the house that some boxing around the top of the pillars & a flat panel roof (could be grooved timber panels that come in large sheets ready for staining or painting) will make it neat & finished.

I would go different again , and do the deck on one level , BUT go over the existing step , the 'terrace' and the footpath . I'd possibly do a built in seat along 'this' near end , and you'd step off the deck down onto the grass , or the path on the right hand side . Brown is the traditional colour to paint your deck obviously , but looking at your colours ( I assume pic 1 was when it was rendered , pic 2 is the painting completed ? ) I'd be tempted to do the deck in a charcoal or even a darker silvery grey , AND the window sills in the grey too . Just my take .

I doubt they have the front door step height for decking if the slabs continues into house

Thx everyone. I think, much as I like the look of decking, Kate is right about the step height. Which also rules out using the pavers. I’m going to investigate modern concrete paint and paint like finishes, but also keep my eye out for other alternatives. You never know

Have a look at Katrina Chambers Insta. She did a coating with flecks on her back area, came up well if you like the look.

I love your house Jan, when you get your porch paving/painting sorted I think white planters would look absolutely gorgeous and compliment your home beautifully.

Thank you, big reader! That finish might be just what we want, especially with an outdoor rug as suggested by Kate. And thank you too, Julie, for the compliment and the decorative suggestion. We have some rectangular planters made from the Linea boards, which I was considering painting white and putting under the section that has the matrix cladding, but those pots are gorgeous so might rethink that. Still have some finishing off to do first, but we’ll get there. Can’t say how much I appreciate everyone’s help, you’re all so kind
