restoring pine wall panels

Hi, we have a 70s house with pine wall panels. We are keen to keep this if possible however is there a way to tidy it up/restore with the dints? Or is pine to hard to work with? We are not keen to pain if possible as we have two toddlers and the pine so far is fairing ok in the stair well compared to painted plasterboard.

Pine is soft and will dint easily. To repair properly you can sand and recoat with a vanish or a combo stain/vanish. For temp/interim repairs you can get wood wax crayons at Bunnings etc that can camouflage small marks.

i have removed small dints in wooden furniture by sanding off the original varnish and then applying a wet cloth and a hot iron to steam the dints then waiting till thoroughly dry to reseal...specific details found on line but you should always test on an out the way location to see how it works for your walls

An old school. My old school was closed down a few years back and it finally went to auction last year. I wish I could have been in a position to buy it! Inside the weather shed each panel had self portraits done by my classmates and I. There was a little rainforest that we planted in 1988, and I still remember which tree was mine!

The Feast Watson product is a great finish it will tone down the white wash look still leaving the timber shining through. the only down side is, if is going over an old polyurethane finish you may have some trouble with adhesion, it would pay to try a small area as a test first, there is nothing worst than seeing paint peeling off due to adhesion problems and it's a major fix up after. Hi Jenny, You have not posted any photos, so I hope i am on the right track with this advice! I have recently assisted two clients with updating their property, both of which were similar to how yours sounds. In the first instance, the timber panelled ceiling was retained and the exposed brick walls plastered over & painted in Resene 'Quarter Spanish White'. In the second instance, the timber panelled ceiling was retained and the timber panelled walls were painted to match the remaining plaster walls (a picture is attached below). In both instances, the spaces were dramatically opened & freshened up and modernised. I think painting the panelling and retaining the brickwork (on the basis that you like it) will work very well.

Okay, here's an update. It seems that the only 'recommended' product is fibre cement sheets as they will not absorb humidity. All the other brands mentioned above didn't recommend their own product when they found out it was going in the bathroom. Scyon and Hardiegroove were the options they recommended. I found providers in Brissy but freight was in excess of $250... Bunning had them in theory, but only for full packs (20 sheets) which was more than I needed so that didn't work either, but... then they told me they also have another brand 'Duragroove' which they did stock.
