Styling Ideas for Spotted Gum Floorboards

Hi all. I’m moving into a house with spotted hum floorboards.
Could you provide your ideas on what direction I should go with styling?
Attached photo has been styled by an Interior Designer. But looking for other options.

What accents should I have? What colour couch would be suitable.

Currently thinking black accents would be nice.

I have spotted gum floor, with lots of glass, reds and timber pieces. All the cabinetry is marine ply. As it is a small house I have walls painted with Antartica(white with a base of tropical sea blue) to tone the yellows in the floor and cabinets. The tiling is a Ming blue, and in service are white. The house has a very calm feeling, even when messy.

Like many timbers, spotted gum can have rose or yellow or more neutral undertones. I think it’s important to ascertain which colour your floor throws first, and then using colour theory, lots and lots of samples and your own preferences, choose your main, secondary and accent colours. Unless you’re very experienced, or have a great natural “eye”, introduction of other timbers should be kept to small items or only one other species that has a reasonable level of contrast, but the same undertone. Also don’t forget to introduce texture(s) and mix your styles a little. Very importantly, take your time, homes aren’t created in a day 😉. btw, Kay: love your home. You’re both so lucky to have such a wonderful jumping off point as a timber floor

Apologies Connie for resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering how you got on? We are facing a similar dilemma. We have discovered existing Kauri pine floorboards in great nick as part of our reno, and want to either match or use something sympathetic in the new extension. They are competely unfinished apart from sanding, with just some black japan around the edges of the rooms.

The engineered floorboards are what they are calling hybrid floors aren't they? They are "floating". Whereas the vinyl look planks are glued down and don't make the click clack sound when you walk on them. I was recently told that the only surface that can withstand water spills is the vinyl floor. I think they said that the hybrid floor will last for 24hrs with water on it without being ruined. I would be interested to see what other people have found to be the case. I have puppies at my place and I would hate for them to wee somewhere and me not see it and them ruin the floor. I like the hybrid floor because it feels more real, but the guys at the flooring shop loved the vinyl planks and what they said about water spills had me thinking that I will need to go with vinyl planks

sounds like a good use of space, you could install a pull out hotel clothes line, you know the one with the round fitting on one wall with a single pull out line which clips into a fitting on the other side. Attaching some photos the first is a bathroom that I would love to use to replace our existing ensuite (without replacing the window) which is as you enter the WC is behind the door to the left, right side is a nearly sunken bath with shower plus a large sliding window beside the bath, we think the architect hadn't allowed enough showering space so by adding the window gave extra width. Then we have a full width vanity and mirror on the third wall. The last should have a swimming pool style hand rail. Did you build your house, would love to see some more photos of the bathroom etc. cheers

Australia has nice examples of painted and rendered Art Deco homes. If it was a different kind of brick I would say keep it, but I think painting/rendering would really brighten the place. I love the windows. Although all pics here don't exactly match your style, they are all of that era. As mentioned in above comments, there are mix of landscaping styles that suit from conifer/gravel/grass to cottage rose garden to an Australian native garden. Do what reflects you and how much time you have for your garden.
