Wrong couch?!
Comments (19)Thank you all! Fiona, the tv wall mount would be very difficult to move..this would be a last resort. Old house = asbestos = wanting to minimise major wall alterations! As for putting the chairs on either side of the kitchen door, I tried this before, and did just again, (I'm a sucker for punishment) and it probably would have been a good look, but the front door opens into the chair on the left side of the kitchen door/opening (on the left side when faxing the kitchen). There is a very limited space here, and the door swings through most of it, it is kind of dead space. Although a long narrow table along the wall was my vision for this area - a place to pop keys etc and put some much needed decorative features. The only other variation I can do is to angle the chairs slightly from where they are now, so that they angle in towards each other (with the one closest to the tv facing slightly away from it. There's only two of us and when we have people over we generally aren't watching tv (we don't watch much at all) anyway. So what is the overall verdict, after all that? Do you think we can still achieve an ok look with the configuration we have, perhaps with a different couch and all the decorative features previously mentioned? Or do I have to sell my chairs too? Although not keen to do that, I would if it means having a room I'm happy with. Thanks again! I have felt very supported by you all during this very stressful weekend of managing a decorating crisis!...See MoreKids and a white sofa...thoughts?

Comments (31)We're going through this at the moment. We have way too many primrose windows and doors to ever consider changing them, so we're embracing them. They suit the house, which is a tan coloured brick with a red tile roof and apricot tiles like yours. We like native Australian colours and are considering some of those (muted greens, beiges, and blues) for our living and bedrooms, but we are struggling with the main wall colours, which we want to be light. Our approach is a trim colour that provides a way to transition from the primrose aluminium to a warm (not yellow) white , and what we have so far is a Resene Double Pearl Lusta for trims with Resene Half Pearl Lusta for the walls. I actually have Half Pearl Lusta on the walls of my office at work and it's a great, warm (not yellow) white that I think will suit the primrose and the tiles. I've experimented with Dulux Berkshire White for trims but they're too bright and white and clash too much with the primrose. I think the big lesson with primrose is that you have to embrace it and not fight against it. It's never going to look any good with really stark whites and monochromatic furniture. Embrace the warmth! Once solution I've found is to also change door furniture (including hinges) to black, because it goes really well with the primrose. Black door furniture and fittings, primrose aluminium windows, and a warm (not yellow) white actually look really good together and provide a solid base for experimenting with other warm, muted colours for feature walls, rooms, and statement furniture....See MoreIdeas on how to update old cream brick facade?
Comments (20)my suggestions includes cleaning all the brick walls and paving and repair any damaged pointing and grout, extending the roof sideways over a new garage without the Dutch gable, clean and paint the roof tiles in a mid colour or consider replacing tiles with Colorbond Steel for a more long lasting fix and opportunity to upgrade roof insulation, replace gutters in a dark colour and downpipes to match the brick colour, replace the steel fence with simple horizontal rails (and/or raise a solid brick fence to maximum height and render in the darkest fence colour) add Plantation shutters or venetians to allow light inside while retaining privacy and use Kate's idea of the pergola across the rear, add generous outdoor furniture to make an outdoor entertaining area, paint the garden retaining walls and fences in a darker version of the new gutter colour and fill the garden beds with shrubs to block out fences and neighbouring houses, keep the big palms and add some big shrubs and more palms to the front yard and paint the front door in the darkest version of the new gutter colour and what are the flat panels on the outside rear wall??...See More- last year
