Thank you very much for feedback so far. We've decided to go ahead and knock out some structural walls (with an engineers report) and create an open kitchen/dining/living area.
The bones of the space will look like the below:
We have a couple of ideas of how to lay it out - see below examples.
I am concerned that in my terrible drawing (top) the island might seem a little bit out of place, and there is additional cost to moving the plumbing. But I like the butlers pantry idea and the open flow of the kitchen.
My father-in-laws' idea (bottom) is good, but I'm not sure about the island backing on to the toilet, and the kitchen space feels a bit awkward and closed.
I think you all will have much better ideas than all of us put together!!! Love any opinions.
