Struggling with colour scheme go heritage or modern
We recently purchased this property built in the 1930s, we like the idea of taking the look back to the original style but wanted something that isn't out there too much. It's an off-light beige colour but faded. We are also changing the roof and gutters and likely keep them in a light colour it's an old tin roof at the moment. We are design novices and want to get it right for the period so any suggestions on a palette would be appreciated. One thing we liked was the name on the front, are there any design rules such as if it gets painted the same colour or not? Plus the slates should match the trims or the main colours so they blend in.

Comments (24)I would look at respecting the period and the architecture of the home by keeping the white exterior. All you need to do is highlight the window frames with a black paint to give it some visual highlights and cleaner lines. Comments (6)Thanks for your insight, yes I'd looked at Surfmist as well, clients seem quite pro grey so trying to subtly work their likes into the scheme as well, as I think they woule like a grey house however I think the monochrome black / white is classic and will endure the test of time longer than some shades of grey, also if they were opting for white windows may be more inclined to look at grey for the house colour however feel that the black windows will work nicer with the lexicon and tie in the black elements. last monthlast modified: last monthHi Mark. I think the house would show off its style by a simple white and pale grey/greige colour scheme. Windows in a vivid white. Plaster in a white (including all of the ground level panelled doors), horizontal slats in a soft grey/greige colour. The name at the top the "plate" a greige colour with the white for the letters. The ‘grey’ on the stair railings also. Take the white down to ground level. Something like these colour combinations. Windows Resene Alabaster; main house colour - Resene 1/8th Thorndon Cream; Slats, Stair railings - Resene Friar Grey (darkest) or Resene Quarter Friar Grey or Resene Cloud (lightest).
