Updating my timber kitchen
Comments (44)yvonne.. re sanding cupboards I had mine professionally sanded because they were looking worn. timber is American Oak and it really didn't lighten very much by sanding. so depending on your timber you might not achieve much. i would change a few upper cabinets with glass doors, white perspex or remove a few doors, paint the back of shelving and hang wine glasses or whetever and break the load that way. I replaced my range hood with a pull out chrome one and that in itself made a difference nt tying in with the chrome handles. see pictures. maybe you could paint the legs or reupholster the stools to white...all part of the kitchen....See MoreProgress port coogee progress

Comments (10)The existing kitchen is just so cookie cutter -- there is almost no character . The irony is that they presumably added the light mint green tiles to try and lift things , but as has been said , its that plain and insipid it detracts IMO . As well as that , just visually I think the tiles go too high up the wall , but thats a minor moan . Those who know me will probably guess , but I think it heeds a stronger colour -- a strong sherwood green , or my favourite , a mid to bright red , even a maroon , would work best with the existing colours and some natural wooden lightshades and stools etc . Gloss black tiles may work , but my worry is that it may make the cabinets look even more like the cheapest Bunnings flat pack ones you can buy , whereas colour will add to the overall look . One little thing though 0-- the overhead cupboards I'd look at getting plaster or silicone or possibly even some small square mouldings added -- right now they look like they'd fall off the roof if you add too much weight !...See MoreMinor kitchen update
Comments (7)I would install cabinets to the ceiling or install a bulkhead. Once new cabinets are installed tile the splash back around the range hood to the cornice. You may like to add timber open shelving either side of range hood if there is enough width. Install cabinets across and around the area where the fridge is, so the fridge is not sitting in the middle of nowhere. Taking the cabinets to the ceiling. If changing the bench, for me there is nothing wrong with it, I would remove the upstand....See More- last month
