creating a new media room for kids and adults, frost or brown leather?

We are in the process of repairing our downstairs living room and adjacent bedroom after storm damage. Blackbutt flooring is going down in both rooms and walls will be repainted likely an off white. Looking for options to create a media room so looking at reclining options to face the wall mounted tv. Picture with black couch is the room pre renovation, TV will be new but in same position

Doesn’t look like the tv is in a good location for viewing from couch. I would do a sectional fabric couch and some ottomans to put your feet up on.

What is the width of the room, (the wall with highlight window)? Kid friendly is soft corners. But kids are not small for very long. Hopefully your lounge will last for the children’s growth into teenage years. So think about comfort for teenagers and adults. And a good quality build. I prefer the tan lounge. But that is my preference. Do you need the lounge tucked into the corner?, or is the width of the room big enough to have the lounge place in front of television, leaving enough space to walk out sliding doors. If you need small children playing space, the area under highlight window could be utilised. Your previous set up had lots of open unused space.

The most kid and pet friendly couch material is leather. So far our blue leather couch has coped with 18 years of toddlers falling asleep and weeing on it, cat vomit, Easter eggs melting between the cushions, spilt milk, spilt orange juice, spilt red wine, spilt coffee, and muddy dog paws. It just wipes clean. Our white leather chair is just as durable and is now 24 years old and just starting to look grubby. So go with beige or cream if you want. It would be a lovely choice, just make sure it is leather. Black or mid or dark brown would also look lovely with that beautiful rug but I think lighter colours would look fresher. Don't be at all scared to use light coloured leather.

Yes, all the Houzzers have been extraordinarily helpful. I am sure in the end, it will be a beautiful room. With regards to the change of sofa style, I was unsure of my ability to keep the white leather clean - particularly the stitching. By finally going with the "Julio" it is slightly more comfy sofa than the "Ariel". It has a higher back and I feel the "granite" colour will give me less hassles. In reality, the "granite" colour has slight yellow/creme undertones which tie back better with the curtains but this doesn't really show up in pictures. Golly, I hope I am on the right track. Go for a neutral shade for the couch. Don't buy a matching chair. X2 couches same is okay. Occasional chair something different, perhaps a colour or patterned fabric. I like sofas that are off the floor to give a more floating look but the one you like is a classic style, I think "hamptons". Get the furniture Fibre guarded upon delivery, it really does make a difference to the batterings of spills etc. If purchasing a rug do that last. People always buy too small. Front legs of furniture must sit on rug or all furniture to sit on the rug. Bring colour in with accessories. I still like the idea of soft curtains to creat a more relaxed cozy feel and will help break up the white brick look. Take rods right up to the ceiling. Go for a mid grey carpet, not too dark as to see every bit of biscuit etc on it. Get good underlay. I would go for a coffee table not a matched ottoman. The room will look so different. Unsure if joinery was aluminum but if so could get a roller shade over it, otherwise paint it out. Good luck and I look forward to some photos. Oh, colours. Warm grey, Resene Quarter truffle with stark white trims like Resene alabaster or Resene Black White. If you want more of a warm neutral look at colours of NZ Dulux. Quarter Opononi (there will be a match for that in Oz if not in NZ.

I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. BTW I love the idea of hanging plants (though watering them might be a pain), I love the idea of a dramatic feature pendant and I also love the idea of the rug, all will soften or harmonise the drama. www.billyhoostudio.com

Half the TV looks like it's opposite the sliding door. Perhaps you can consider moving the TV so it is centred opposite the couch. I like the look of the tan couch but the back doesn't look high enough to be a recliner. The most important factor in the choice is comfortable to sit in (and recline). Depending where you are shopping, couches/chairs are often available in a range of colours.

I would place the TV on the wall of sliding doors. This should lessen light reflection. Place lounge opposite with reclining at end under high windows. This will create a TV nook in room. You could extend lounges on long wall so that you could look outside directly. Maybe put a coffee table in front. Personally I like the more colourful lounge colour.

Could the tv be mounted on a swivel so that you can turn it to face the lounge suite or put the tv in the cabinet which you would also put on an angle
