Design/Style considerations for Kitchen/Dining space remodel
Comments (1)Start a collection (photo's magazines, image's, etc.) of your favourite rooms. A good designer works with what they have not against it. Wood cabinets may work with just a new bench top rather than a whole new kitchen. Spent good money on item's that will last a long time, get used all the time or are such classic's that they can be moved from room to room or house to house....See MoreNeed help with my bathroom remodel
Comments (9)based on the accurate dimensions the most economical update would be to replace the spa with a shower over bath, keep the existing vanity and toilet, reuse existing taps and retile but, any bath renovation is always much more expensive than imagined, and the unexpected expenses (eg asbestos under tiles) can add up and a minimum of ten thousand for a very modest upgrade wouldn't be surprising...If the bathroom is in acceptable condition especially if there's any possibility of a future expansion towards the backyard that could affect the current position of bathroom and laundry) i suggest (subject to confirmation from a plumber) that you consider reorganising the other spaces and sacrifice the wiw to create an ensuite with linen storage taken off the middle bedroom..surprisingly an extra bathroom could be less expensive than renovating the old one but i would still allow at least $10,000 with careful planning...See Morekitchen remodel - put the sink under the window?
Comments (5)Hi Heather and Malcolm, thanks so much for your input! Good to know about the face panels, Malcolm, that would be way cheaper and easier than getting the window shortened, I’m guessing. The handle on the sliding opening window is movable so we can slide it higher and will still be easily accessible. I wonder if it would be hard to clean down in the sill space behind the face panels. Sorry, I should have said - yes we are intending to have an island of bench in the middle there, same spot as current bench left of current sink. The dishwasher is in it, actually, just left 90degrees of the current sink, so I’m a little worried that might be weird having it away from sink when sink has been moved. Maybe we should move both dishwasher and sink and put side by side in new kitchen? As for the fridge, it’s on the back wall (photo below) so we’ll just leave that in current position I think, probably....See MoreHELP with kitchen remodel layout
Comments (34)The thing that has concerned me is that unless you enter through the front door and along the passageway past the bedrooms, you have to cross either of the two sunken rooms, ie; Media, living which I don't think is ideal, it would be magic if the Media was an internal garden courtyard. The following is just another idea that might help improve access into the kitchen family. the WIP between the Bar and kitchen would work for guests arriving into the house, in the evening via the living room and stopping in the Bar or during the day continuing to the kitchen family. The WIP could have a sink and DW which would service both kitchen and Bar. Another sink in the island and possibly another DW. The Bar could have a tall table with bar stools Whatever you do in the rear part of the house you will need new flooring to tie it all together Exciting times having a new home, once you have access you can work out how the spaces function and flow for you and the family...See More- last month
