The wider vein of the Calcatta or the finer but darker vein of the Statuario - for me it's the Statuario Novo. Comments (24)White-matte cabinets (flat panel, not shaker) and white bench (or maybe epoxy sealed marine ply??...siriuskey can tell you about that), mirror splash. Love the ceilings. I personally would go for a modern, stream-line, no handles, integrated appliances look. This space has real potential to be very cool, even with the slate. Sky white quartzite is coming up grey on my computer. If that is the case, and you want a colour, I suggest to look at a teal colour range.
PRO17 days agoHi Ash, what other colours will go in the space near and around the kitchen? Dining upholstery, floor finishes, rugs, other furniture items, any theme in your art pieces etc? It all has an impact on what you choose. It doesn't necessarily need to match, but it does need to fit with the overall scheme or style of your home.
I had a client that went with the white to match the walls on the rear cabinets and a smokey brown on the island. I didn't like the choise at first but it really works well in their space with a lot of earthy tones and mainly asian timber joinery and a lot of art and hand made terracotta floor tiles - which most people no longer use.
The space it is a part of has two storey height ceilings and so this earthy tone, grounds the island in the space and does not compete with their art. If you have no art, you might like the island to take centre stage!!!
So my main question is, what does the cabinetry need to relate to and fit in with?
