Sorry to be a downer, Suzanne, but the minute I saw your table I immediately thought bulk so I have to agree with Leelee, that it will visually fill an area, especially where space is tight. That said, I do love the table. The other thing I am looking at is the table with your sofa - the sofa is much more formal and delicate and suggests a period design, while the table is ultra modern, heavy and casual. I'm wondering what chairs you would put with the table to balance these differences out and that won't be swamped by the table. Love the example Dy has posted for you, he always has great ideas. There was a lady once on Houzz who had an extremely tiny home we helped her decorate and she went with predominant whites with shades of blue and natural elements and the result was restful and really beautiful. Her tiny rooms were beautifully decorated without making the rooms looked swamped. These make great backdrop colours and you can see from the two vases of flowers just how easy it is to add some additional colour. Keep a lot of clear glass for accessories too - lamp bases, coffee or side tables, vases, etc. These will create a more spacious look also while still dressing a room.

I bought home a black leather dining chair tonight and took it to the house Looks good . because the dining table is built in it has quite a big block holding it up in the middle and the chairs don't go all the way in unless I get baby chairs so I will have to deal with them standing out a bit from the table :( thanks for your support !! Tweeza, I should have made it clearer on the plan, but that is a window between the lounge room and the verandah. Thank you for the suggestions and the photos too! Debluc, that is exactly what we would like to do down the track. The walls in between the kitchen and the lounge/dining are structural though, so changing that is going to have to wait until the budget allows unfortunately. Bigreader, I agree with a preference to stay away from corners. I will talk to the installers about this being an option, though that position for a flue for the fire place could be problematic because of solar panels on the roof. Allanaspree, I like this idea! We talked about switching out the two seater for single chairs, so this idea might work. I'll play around with the exact measurements to see how we go.

Extend length of island by 200mm (by reducing passage either side to 1100mm) or keep 1200mm either side and keep it same length as benchtop behind) 2  Reduce island width from 1200mm to 900mm with waterfall ends and 40mm stone top to give "chunkier " look to island but open it up so lounge/dining is larger. 3. Reduce scullery walkway to 1100mm from 1200mm. Or shall I keep it at 1200mm? 4. Where sink is currently positioned by window overlooking alfresco…shall I relocate it to end of island bench or keep where it is?
