Comments (2)Won't anyone offer you advice? If I'm not too late to be considered, here are a few comments. analyze first, then plan Since you have chosen to paint the front section white, we are primarily drawn to it. That is good that we are not drawn to the garage, as in many homes. You have a handsome exterior facade, very simple, not complex. I suggest an outdoor room in the area that receives the shade in the photo, a welcoming terrace with a pedestrian walk to the street and another from the terrace to the entrance porch, which is hidden from here, but we don't want our guests walking between cars on the driveway, do we!!! Also, when the guests are leaving the warmth of your hospitality, rather than rushing off to their car, have them linger on the front terrace for ten minutes for an extended "farewell, come back and see us again soon, you are always welcome" message, perhaps a farewell drink, or a coffee for the driver. Enjoy...See MoreBland and monochromatic - landscape ideas needed
Comments (13)You have a great home. Don't paint the fence - natural is always best with this style of home. And once you paint, you have ongoing maintenance. Look at the big trees on the LHS of the photo. These trees are above the height of your home and are helping to frame your home. I would suggest using a tall tree on the RHS behind the fence and if you have room in your rear yard, tall trees here. Then your home will be fully 'framed' from the road. Many will cringe at the suggestion of tall trees. People need to get over this attitude - we need more trees in our gardens and tall trees help with creating microclimates and assisting the hydrological cycle. People also whinge about leaves in the gutters. You will get these from the neighboring trees anyway. Cleaning gutters is part of home maintenance and shouldn't discourage people from growing trees. And there are now numerous gutter protectors that modern homes now have in place. Annuals in pots wont work if its too shady. You could use big pots - and they need to be big due to the scale of your home, and plant strappy plants like Liriope in them. There is a great variety called Emerald Cascade that you could consider. I would use dark grey pots as they are untrendy and will last indefinitely. Another great pot plant is Pittosporum tobira 'Miss Muffet'. Both would look excellent in the big grey pots....See MoreStreet appeal- exterior chamfer board query
Comments (5)Thanks @siriuskey. We had the same thought, but our builder said the frame style moulding is for interior use only and would perish in 2-5 years in the full sun on the front of the house. Perhaps there is moulding that is suitable for outdoor use... I do like the look. One of our neighbours has done it (blue-grey paint, white window frames) and it looks good. We have done the kitchen window in the back as an experiment; it is undercover and out of the sun though. I like the grey idea, but our neighbour's house is shades of grey (not like the book ;) and we didn't want to be too matchy-matchy. We might have another think about the paint... thank you for your comments. :)...See MoreCharacter House Raise
Comments (4)Am I negative , or am I picky ? I understand the aim , but the three things that irk me . I can't understand why you 'step' the downstairs inwards , but do it 'flat' ? Surely you would do a similar 'bay window' protrusion downstairs to add interest , at very little extra cost ? The upstairs windows look new , but are in character and suit . So why do a modern large window downstairs that doesn't fit the style and era ? Sort of related to those two would be why not do a dark 'highlight' board above the downstairs window -- as outlined , I'd do the 3 seperate windows ( 2 angled and the centre ) but with a board the same as upstairs , done in black to match . And a sort of side niggle -- the three panels downstairs right are okay , but again surely you'd go black to tie it all in , instead it looks to be a lighter coppery bronze , and doesn't relate to anything else ....See More- last month
