Sound like good ideas to me. Orange door would look good with dark grey render. Stain any timber work charcoal. Also add horizontal boards at the house gable. Incorporate the low wall in the front fence idea by making it higher - maybe just slats so the garden can be seen through it. The mail box could be in there too. Make a further statement with fast growing trees to create an arch over the entry gate.

"Our house was built in 2000, and even then I suspect it was already out dated." It's a style based on an earlier era which is not the same as 'outdated'. I agree with the advice to go with the style and maybe spend a little to further enhance it, as suggested some heritage colour advice and landscaping. Rendering, roof painting, replacing the garage door, replacing the arched windows, finding a roofing solution for the entrance to replace the bullnose, it's all a lot of money and some of it will introduce ongoing maintenance which you don't now have to deal with. And it's quite possible that in a few years the popular 'render with Monument trim' will scream outdated reno, while houses that embraced their replica Victorian or Federation or whatever style will still have the charm of a bygone era as intended.

I made another comment at 12.32am, re rugs. I also chose my table this weekend. It's a lighter colour, as you'll see in my attachments. Not what I initially intended on going for. Originally I had my heart set on something a little darker than my floorboards, however I went for something lighter. Check out my latest query at 12.32am.

Depending on your budget I’d paint the cabinetry, replacing the doors if you can afford to and just painting them if the budget is tight. Just a thought, maybe it’s possible to fill that detailing in the doors to make them appear flat once painted. Not sure if it’s possible. It’d be a shit of a job but then you’d have solid wooden doors. And new handles. The same with the tiles. Paint is a cheaper option. New tiles would give a better finish. Remove the window valance. Perhaps resurface the benchtop with a product like rustoleum. Replacing the oyster light with something more contemporary. Open shelving can look great and lighten a space but think about whether this compromises your storage capacity. Everything will be on show. I think if you paint the cabinets then the floor won’t look so bad as there will be separation between the similarly coloured floor and ceiling. Cork is great in kitchens as it’s soft so it’s easy on your legs and back and forgiving if you drop things. It’s also making a comeback, as are timber ceilings. I would choose soft flooring for a kitchen over hard flooring. Kitchen floor tiles are a pet hate of mine. In my next build we’re putting rubber or cork in the kitchen. You’d struggle to put a double oven next to the fridge as it’s a thoroughfare. You’d also lose your pantry. Is two side by side 60cm ovens a possibility where your oven currently is?
